Making money as an ebay affiliate

I haven't run into any problems w/ CJ/ebay yet doing my method of redirecting from subdirectories on my domain(s). Or if I just send them to my main phpBay blog, then there's no problem there either.

CJ/ebay see the traffic coming from my domains and not just a straight link from Gmail or whatever. I guess maybe that's why I haven't had issues. Maybe I've just been lucky & they might eventually crack down on my auto responder way of doing this. <shrug>

By the way, if you were declined from eBay's program automatically, it's because you're not in the US. Send them an email or CJ internal mail to ask permission to join - Just mention you have US traffic.

I still have my account, I stopped using Craigslist Assistant,
perhaps it is what SLACKERGUY says, link to ebay going from web or blog should not be a problem, as long as is not from email,
as the email recipient would click the link from his/her email, either they got gmail, yahoo, or cragislist, it does make sense, thanks SLACKERGUY ;

do you guys use auto poster software to post your ad? or just you do it manually.

how often you post one ad( one product) to be safe and not get flagged?
thanks

Right now - I'm doing it manually. I actually have the Easy Ad Poster software (Essential Craigslist Tools) but I'm not using it for promoting ebay auctions through CL. I'm dabbling w/ some other CL marketing using it, but not ebay. Also I only have the standard version, not the deluxe, which you have to type in the CAPTCH for each ad you post. It automates everything but the CAPTCHA. The deluxe version even automates that...but the CAPTCHA solving tacks on a hefty price difference. It's worth it, though, if you're a big time CL marketer and have figured out what works. I'm not there yet. I may upgrade down the road & try to automate a lot more. Who knows...

so how much are people making per month as an ebay affiliate using phpbay or similar software? I just started this month and made a few bucks, nothing big yet.

I've made about $11, in a lonely niche. It paid for itself, so I'll leave it alone for now, but I think my niche choice sucked. I did pay for some directory submissions with Kamesh so I expect my rank to go up before the end of next year (this year seems kind of shot )

With 10 million pages in google with my keywords, and niche results of about 14 thousand on ebay ( in the main category ), I was expecting more. But I'll leave that site alone for the next few months to drive up authority.

And I think my niche is more-or-less seasonal, focused around the holidays, so that's a fine approach.

Ebay doesn't pay a lot in commissions because their fees are so small compared to the final auction bid. However, if you target markets where people have never used eBay before, you can make a killing in $25 referral commissions. How difficult is it to get someone to register for the site if they see something that they REALLY want?

I use PPC to drive traffic to my eBay affiliate sites and my ROI is often 100-300%. It's just a matter of setting up ultra targeted pages.

There are so many niches you can target on eBay that it's absolutely mind boggling.

I agree...I do this also.....To many niches to get. The script is a heaven sent because you can target more quality users than BANS. Plus if you work the feeds right.. Your quality score will be good and you can get cheap clicks.:xmas-smiley-016:

Using Method 1

You post the items.. say cars
Acura
Audi
etc

as pages and not categories?

Wouldn't posting in categories be better as the search function works in Categories, where if you post the items in pages..
search doesn't pick up the items?

So unless I misunderstood, why do you prefer to post in Pages and not Categories?
TIA

The reason for pages over categories (for me, anyway) is that I will set phpBay to list like 100 auctions per group (100 Acuras, 100 Audis, etc). So each page can be complete & list all of those 100 auctions w/out being cut off or not allowing any other posts to be shown.

There's probably better ways in WP to accomplish this. But this works for me.

I don't really care about people searching my site because I've posted an ad on CL about a specific car. They're looking for that car and can just find it fairly easily on the manufacturer's page by scrolling. They may find another car/item they're more interested in along the way while looking through the site, too.

If you post on craigslist what do you tell people (or put in your auto-responder) when they respond to your ad, to make the response personal? You just tell them that you decided to put your item on E-bay and give them a link to your blog?

I'll say something along the lines of...

"Hey, thanks for your interest in my xxxx (laptop, Wii, car, whatever). I actually have more information on it here (hyperlink to my redirect) if you're interested. Let me know what you think."

Or something like that. Most people (I'm guessing) don't immediately think to themselves, "Oh that's just some scammer linking me an ebay auction". They just click on through and check it out.

I also have the auto-responder delay the response so they don't send me an email about it & immediately get that back. Another more human-seeming element to it.

I'm basically a noob and I do really well with Ebay. I don't bother with the Craiglist stuff because Craiglist hates me and blocks me at every turn, but I think article marketing works just as well for less work. I don't target the big obvious niches like electronics, ipods and laptops. There's a ton of collectible related niches with virtually no competition and some of that stuff sells for big bucks -- much more money than your average laptop sells for because people who collect stuff are CRAZY. I usually do 5-10 articles per niche, submit to the article directories, and move on to the next one.

Jennstall,

I'm a little confused about articles ... Do you also use the same articles on your site that you submit to the directories? Or do you just use the articles for submission (traffic) only and then only have the auction links on the site?
Thanks!

To setup phpbay with e-bay is all you have to do is put in your CJ account PID?

You don't actually have to setup an E-bay affiliate link?

Since my blog e-bay blog got 2 clicks and I'm not seeing any impressions in my CJ reports.

All you do is put in the PID and phpbay creates the links automatically.
