Making money as an ebay affiliate

That's what I did, well that's strange then I wonder why CJ isn't recording the impressions. I'll see what happens after more traffic.

i dont think that ebay aff program records impressions. I think they only record clicks./

Jennstall,

I'm a little confused about articles ... Do you also use the same articles on your site that you submit to the directories? Or do you just use the articles for submission (traffic) only and then only have the auction links on the site?
Thanks!

Just for traffic. My wordpress Ebay sites have a paragraph or two at the top of each page before the auctions are listed. My other scripted Ebay sites are just auctions.

I should probably experiment with putting more content on the actual sites.

Good info.......usually I do one article on the site with the feeds. The I have a similar article for the directories.

I've been branching off in that direction the last few months ... best luck that I am having is by focusing on hobbyist/enthusiast niches rather than broader ones like cars. Technical and how-to content is easy to source without worrying about plagiarising, and with proper SEO formatting (header and meta and all that) can have a great impact on the traffic.

I basically focus on the hobbyist/enthusiast niches as well. I think next year I'll start making some of my sites look more like the hobbyist sites rather than an obvious affiliate site. I end up shaking my head a lot while doing research. A lot of those hobby sites send free traffic to Ebay. No affiliate links. Crazy!

The only bad thing about promoting the Ebay affiliate program is spending a lot of time on Ebay itself. I occasionally find myself the winning bidder just because I saw something while surfing for stuff to promote. :Yahoo_29:

I also have the auto-responder delay the response so they don't send me an email about it & immediately get that back. Another more human-seeming element to it.

Thanks for the answer +rep

Do you mind sharing which e-mail host do you use that offers an auto-responder delay? I wonder if Google Mail offers this, I'll have to check it out.

A quick question on the CL adverts - how do you handle pricing of your item? Are you selecting a BIN item from eBay to advertise on CL or handling a different way?

thanks!

I use Gmail accounts to send & receive, but the random response delay is handled by the Easy Auto Responder software. If you just use the Vacation response through Gmail, then it sends the response email immediately. The EAR software allows you to specify a time range that it randomizes for responses. Works great.

Yeah, I pretty much just post BIN items on CL so I don't risk someone getting pissed at a misleading price and trying to cause trouble for me with CJ/ebay.

I have not seen anyone mention BANS. Do you guys have any opinions on that software? I currently have 13 BANS sites

Curious about that too..
Just bought phpBay, but BANS looks very interesting to me too.

BANS works fine too, and is good for technophobes who want to integrate eBay into a content site. phpBay does everything BANS can and then some, and is cheaper if I am not mistaken; running well-sorted feeds through a WP blog is free if work-intensive. Once you get the process down, it's just a matter of how much work you want to put into getting the feeds into more and more specific categories for your niche -- this process can be a pain in the ass since eBay's search facility, like most of the rest of the site, is an anachronistic piece of crap. But you can get a butt-ugly basic site up and running in a couple of hours, then tweak it on the fly once it's live, for free.

I'm new here and read this thread a few weeks ago. Decided to give it a try and built some basic SEO friendly sites, and since December 14th I've made just over $200 using the free phpBay pro script and wordpress. :D

The only problem I've come across is getting these sites indexed quickly and ranking well. It can be tricky getting backlinks on a site with nothing but eBay links on it...

Did you make that $200 with SEO or with another promotion method?

One thing to bear in mind is that the various eBay programs are separate. If you send someone to eBay.com and the end up bidding on eBay.co.uk for example you won't get paid. This makes eBay a bit of a PITA for international traffic.

OpenAds and the Maxmind IP database seems to be the best solution I've found so far (if anyone knows how to deal with this without geo-targetting please let me know! - does phpBay address this?)

Do some quick article marketing. I usually write up about five articles for each Ebay site and send them to Ezinearticles and a couple of other directories. It helps get them spidered quicker.

On Wordpress, I also do an About page blabbing in a bit about the niche and then at the top of each page of auctions I write a bit about the crap I'm selling.

For instance, I'm putting together a gift card page now and wrote this on the Target gift cards page.

"Your gift selection will be right on Target by grabbing a couple of different Target Gift cards for friends and family."

Probably a bit more text will be better, but this is good enough for hit and run. I can always tweak it later.

Any tips Mal for building SEO friendly sites with phpbaypro?
