I got a PM, so I thought I would share it with everyone, incase they too wanted to live on an island.

Hey!
If you end up moving to Antigua, we can start a AM office, haha jk
Antigua is great from some angles and bad from others.
The Good:
- 365 beaches on the island, ALL beaches are legally open to the public, so no one owns any beach.
- The expats are amazing - people that move here seem to have the same out look on life, they are happy, easy going, and friendly. I have some amazing friends that I met down here.
- Housing is RELATIVELY inexpensive. Depending where you come from, its pretty cheap, I have a 4 bedroom house, with a pool and a huge yard in one of the safest, prettiest areas, for 2500 USD + Utilities. I live in the Jolly Harbour area.
- flying to the US is very easy, specially if your on the east coast as there are direct flights to new york, miami and some smaller quick stop flights that go all over.
- There are a bunch of recreational things to do, for a family and for yourself. I find most families down here that are expats seem really happy and are closer than most families in bigger cities.
The Bad:
- It is starting to get a bit more dangerous/criminal here. I still leave my house doors unlocked and car door unlocked. I had my house broken into once while i was away on business. I have an alarm system now, and haven't had any other scares.
- Groceries are expensive since everything is imported.
- The education for kids seems kinda lacking, although some of my friends are teachers here and know their shit, they still don't seem to be as educated as a public school in canada.
- Power is a bit expensive and there are some outages, I went 20 hours without power once - A generator is a must and not all houses have them.
The thing about the bad is, if your frustrated, you just goto one of the 365 beaches, and all of a sudden everything is great. Booze is insanely cheap too, so if you need a vice, this is a good place to start.
As for finding housing here:
Lush Locations is who I rent from, they are pretty good. Ask For Joanne, she seems to be the best person to deal with as I call her any time with any problem, and its fixed asap. They do houses all over, but have a lot in Jolly Harbour.
Elaine runs AntiguaAcres.com - very nice lady and these houses are probably a bit less expensive than Lush. These would be more on the north side of the island in Crosbies and hodges bay.
JHR (Jolly Harbour Realty) is run by one of my Friends Adam and they also do real estate all over. Another nice place, but more of a party town during season and then DEAD off season, is English Harbour. I think JHR has an office in English Harbour too. My friend who works for them, found a 3 bedroom house ON the water for 2000 EC a month. English Harbour is nice, but far away from a GOOD grocery store (the best one of these is North side of the island in woods center and the 2nd best is in Jolly Harbour).
1 USD = 2.7 EC.
Internet is good down here, it has to be because of all the gaming companies that run down here. I run an online poker room and have never had our office lose connectivity.
Anyways,
Hope this helps a little!
