My POF Journey (Journal) Case Study

I've had numerous ads on POF start out with very low CTR's and then rise to acceptable levels. If you're nuking ads after 12 clicks, then I dunno...
Really? O.o never experienced that. For me, it's generally the opposite, I start with some good, some bad, and then some of the good ones just drop like a stone after say a day, whereas other good ones in the same campaign hold fairly well. I'd say 7k impressions is enough to get a decent idea. (although if they haven't got any clicks at all by 3/4k imps, I nuke them straight away now.)
Here are some results from one campaign.

Total Spending: $15.03
Impressions Delivered: 33394
Clicks: 67
CTR: 0.201%
CPC: $0.22

Here is the Demo

Country = United States
Gender = Male
Ethnicity = Caucasian
Login Count ≤ 50
Religion = Christian
Session Depth Between
1, 10

With broad targeting, the ads die real quick. I will re-run with a bigger budget and tighter demo base on my previous stats.
That's a nice CTR, grats. About the demo size though, I can't remember the exact number, but there are millions of POF users in the US. If your campaign's dying quickly targeting broad, it may just be that the CTR's lower, cause you're less targeted, so it seems like it's going down the tube, but until you've actually burnt through the userbase (i.e. many millions of imps) personally, I'd consider it testing, to see which demos convert best. You may be surprised, imo.

It's good you have nice ctr's & cpc's, but what you don't say is how many conversions did you get?

also...why always use the session depth 1,10?

I remember reading somewhere that if you're targeting men, you want to have a lower session depth, I think it was off of Mr. green's blog.

The reason i target lower session depth is because i want my ads to appear within the time rate to the user. If the user is on POF for more than 20 minutes, they already seen hundreds of ads.

Sure, i agree on that...tough have you test higher session depths at least?
Ever red Riley Pool's case study about the session depth option?

Yea. Riley had better conversions when he tested lower session depth. It makes more sense to me

I should also mention that I was talking about my experience running IAB's.

In terms of OP's last set of statistics, I am assuming you're running a Christian dating offer. I don't know what particular offer you're running, but I ran a similar campaign some time ago, and after several thousand leads (not exclusively on POF), I found that one advertiser in particular isn't too fond of POF traffic quality. You should have another offer ready to go in the event that you get blacklisted after moderate volume.

Also, if that's indeed your niche, you could definitely tweak it for higher EPC's. Try the other gender for higher CVR's, plus more specific targeting in terms of religious preferences (adjust ad copy to reflect specific denomination).

I'd throw in age; chances are your dating offer only takes 25+ (i'd check with your am);
tightening up the age group allows for more targeted images and that should boost your roi

I agree imkazu. My next campaign are all age targeted, im also testing different offers.

Will keep ya posted

make sure when you're testing other offers you compare them apples to apples. i.e. if you send 100 clicks to offer 1, send 100 clicks to offer 2. you can't send 12 clicks to 1 and 500 clicks to 2 and say either converts better.

Im seeing some good ROI now by split testing and dumping the campaign that are not getting any clicks or converting. Thank you all for your input on this matter.

I will post some results in a few......

Ok, so i started a new campaign on POf with a new offer. I got hella clicks and no conversions.

I spent $50.24 on this test, got 69 clicks and only one conversion. YUk!!!

Here is the Demo:

Country = United States
Age Between 30, 40
Gender = Male
Income =50,001 to 75,000, 75,000 to 150,000+

I usually do tighter demo but decided to test something diffrent.

I paused the campaign and ran it again for today with a tighter demo to see what happens.

I only spent $7.45, got 23 clicks and 0 conversion. The CPC was kinda good ($0.32)

Here is the second demo:

Country = United States
Age Between 30, 40
Gender = Male
Income =50,001 to 75,000
Login Count ≤ 100
Marital Status = Single
Session Depth Between 1, 10

I might run this campaing again with a new offer. Im thinking the landing page might of sucked!!

About $150.00 lost with 2 other campaigns i also had running.

It's a good learning experience but i think its time i get some ROI.
