No Excuses 3 - Official Thread

AdExhibitJason - thanks for all the ideas! I'm trying this SEO style, too, and it's pretty slow going! Your ideas were a good boost. Thanks!

Thought I'd pop in to say that I am still plugging along. Although after reading the numerous posts about Google bans and rebills, I have switched gears a couple of times.

I was half tempted to buy a lp, cause 1. I'm a coding/design retard and 2. the day job keeps getting in my way. But I figure it's shit I need to know, so I'm working on it , but it's slow going. I know how it should look. I know how I want it to look. Easy to envision. Not so easy to initiate.

I am learning. A LOT.

With the recent scrubbing going on with bizops I am kind of lost. I have spent about $1800 (total loss of about $1k) in testing and trying to get this niche profitable. I have another grand left and while I can go to another vertical, I dont want to waste all of that time, money, and effort I spent on testing.

What are some of my options to stay in bizops?

BTW, I wouldnt say everything is lost and I have definitely improved my ppc and marketing skills in general. So while I would rather stay with bizops, I do feel confident that I can make another niche profitable with that remaining 1k

Nice update Mike, gotta get my finger out since my bizop campaign went a bit funky :( New campaign is going live soon I hope.

Just thought I'd chime in :) I'm having fun! and learning lots - mostly learning how much there is I have NO idea about. And so much I don't even know I don't know yet! yikes... anyway, doing terrible as far as income, but I've made enough to give me hope!! So that part's nice :) GL everyone! ....

Yay...glad to see I'm in the top 10. But that's not saying much, given how small our earnings are.

I put a ton of time into the teeth whitening vertical, did some LPs that were very similar to some of the ones I see everywhere on all of the media buy sites, and my CTR was shit! I couldn't bring it above 9% for some reason, and I was tweaking my LPs like a madman and trying all sorts of stuff, so after trying 4+ PPC traffic sources and several hundred dollars I finally switched niches.

New niche: seems to have more potential, broader audience, etc. but still struggling to get a better CTR on the landing pages. I'm rotating between totally different page styles, and after having seen a million other LPs out there, am surprised that I'm not having better results. Still hovering around ~10%, which is fucking terrible. I've done some dating LPs outside of No Excuses 3 that have 30-40% CTR so I can't be a total moron.

I'm committed to making this work. Totally. I find it fascinating and challenging. But I am frustrated by the apparent ease with which some people find profitable campaigns, whereas I'm putting in what I imagine to be more time than most and I've got little to show for it so far.

Also. Yahoo search seems to totally blow. It was eating up my budget every day and kept recharging my card in advance, which I found annoying. Now I've got a large balance remaining that I can't let run down because I don't want them to charge me again.

Anyway. I'm also taking the advice of many and avoiding Google entirely for these campaigns. Don't want to deal with those additional headaches...

I went with something that lots of people are promoting. Did not want to find out too late that I was in a dead niche. So far, it's worked.... until I got the dreaded email saying the campaign is being pulled. So.. Time to change gears, no big deal.

Pull an average of 2% Ad to LP. 40% LP to offer. and 5% conversion rate.

Don't get frustrated at "the apparent ease". While you are working lots of hours, so are others. I generally am working from 6pm - 1am on the campaigns, and about 30 hours on the weekends. Still have to pull full time work or I'd be further ahead.

CTR. what are you doing to bring that up? I'm a fan of clickheat. It makes it pretty quick to find where everybody is clicking, and realize it's not a link.

You can get the yahoo money put back, or you can remove your card, and run it dry.

Just ask Yahoo to switch you to manual payment method. They have no problem with it

For improving my CTR I've been making every image a link, spreading more text links throughout the sales text, adding the geo-targeting common on the flog-style landers of yore, changing out images in the header, inserting dynamic keywords in the headline, changing layout colors, and was rotating between flog-style, review-style and generic "check out this great product" style selling page. I wasn't expecting such drastically low numbers, since I've been trying to "imitate" the ones that seem to be popular, as was suggested to me.

I think I need to understand the mindset of buyers / browsers a little better. Just read a comment about how buyers are more likely to find a review style site compelling because they have pretty much decided to buy but want to compare products, whereas browsers tend to respond better to flogs / personal stories because they aren't necessarily looking to buy anything at the moment. I need more insight like this...

Haven't tried Clickheat yet. Will do. Looked around Yahoo but didn't see a place to delete my credit card. Must have just missed it. I was mostly pissed because the traffic didn't convert AT ALL.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

Malpais. Try to get someone to review your LP. Maybe its something simple you can change that will make the difference.

The contest portion of NE3 ends in less than a week ... hey mike, how about a update for everyone right before the final leg of the race?

NE3ers: If you've got a CampaignSniper credit from me by participating in NE3 and have not submitted your report, I'm assuming you're not serious about making the monies, so I'll be deleting them later this evening ... no whining, you've had 3 full weeks.

Mike, I would really like an update on the leaderboards, as I've made good strides in the last week, thanks in part to Erect's report, and would love to see where I'm at now.
