Sup, I know that some of you guys are into fitness and nutrition, and a couple of you are into the primal movement, and pretty much all of us know that what we eat effects how sharp we are and how much energy we have, so let's talk about nutrition ITT; high protein diets, yay or nay? Do calorie restricted diets really boost your energy like I've heard some people say?

Just trying to enrich the forum after my troll posts, figured a lot of us could benefit from this.

Right now I'm eating a lot of canned sardines--loving it. Been waking up having a tin of sardines with dijon mustard and chopped onion mashed into a spread, put on a piece of whole wheat toast and fill up my mug of coffee and I feel good for the rest of the day. Sardines have almost no mercury, are a good protein source, have the following nutrients: healthy fatty oils, Vitamin D, valuable B vitamins, Calcium, and something I don't think I get enough of--magnesium.

What kind of health foods to you eat? What type of diet do you have?(This thread in inspired by the productivity thread).

Looking forward to your responses, back to ballin on runescape

I went vegetarian for about a week, started to feel great and a lot healthier but my newly formed vagina made me self-conscious. No but really in all seriousness I did eat only raw foods for about a month and I've never felt better. I was able to sleep like a baby, had tons of energy, and never felt drowsy. I couldn't stick with it though... I'm a sucker for burgers, ribs, and fries :D

easiest thing to do is to drink 2 full glasses of ice water when you wake up.

Lots of whole foods, lots of raw veggies, lots of lean protein.

I do my best to avoid processed foods, sugar, HFCS, and wheat.

Your digestive system is the key component of your immune system. Eating right has enormous benefits. Eating bad can be fatal.

I lol'd my coffee out of my nose. I'm not even entirely sure why.

You're lucky you got out when you did, next thing you know you would have been buying a cat and becoming a lesbian, oh and don't forget the hot yoga class you would be taking on wednesday evenings.

1. Drink water and avoid soda pop / sugary juice / processed food / junk food
2. Eat veggie, fruits, grains and some meat
3. Run around for 30 mins a day, and do some pushups/squats/pullups
4. ???
5. Not die by 35 from obesity.

been paleo/primal for about a year and feel better now than i did in my 20's
(to be honest spent most of that stoned so that may not be saying much)

in a nutshell

eat meat, vegetables nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. take irregular high intensity exercise and regular gentle exercise. supplment with vit D, Omega 3 and a basic multi vit.
dont eat anything that has a shelf life of more than a few days and nothing which your great grandparents wouldnt regonize as food.

This:

I'm on a high protein diet. Consist mainly of turkey breast / egg whites / tuna.

+ this:

easiest thing to do is to drink 2 full glasses of ice water when you wake up.
I do 32 oz when I wake up but that's probably overkill.

And I drink a 48 oz. V8 fusion almost every day just in case I don't get enough fruits and vegetables in my ordinary diet. I love them (yeah, even the Acai one tastes good) and I feel really great.

I'm training for my first marathon plus my first IronMan shortly after so I can't afford to eat like crap, but I do give myself a "cheat day" every Saturday.

I'm attempting to get rid of the simple carbs and replace it with complex carbs, such as quinoa, oats, whole grains etc.

Raw veggies such as collard greens, kale, broccoli, peppers, carrots etc, are at the top of the list of things to eat. I've developed a taste for it so now greasy spoon type grub can really taste like ass unless it's done just right. (I don't eat like a health freak when with friends)

Funny you mention sardines because I eat them heavily.

Dean Ornish's approach isn't very fashionable at the moment, however I find that the science backing it is strong.

  • Group 1: Fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nonfat dairy, egg whites, soy products.
  • Group 2: Avocados, seeds, nuts, oils, canned vegetables, low-fat dairy, decaffeinated beverages.
  • Group 3: Seafood, refined carbs, concentrated sweets, oils higher in saturated fats, margarine.
  • Group 4: High-fat animal products, whole-fat dairy, mayonnaise, pastries, cookies, pies.
  • Group 5: Red meat, egg yolks, fried foods, hot dogs, organ meats, butter, cream, tropical oils.

1. Plenty of water.
2. Eat lots of fruit, veggies, meat only sparingly.
3. Drink 5-6 beers and several glasses of whiskey at night. Smoke what you like.
4. Forget about 1 and 2 and binge on pizza, burritos, etc.

I'm coming out with a line of organic, acai infused whiskies and high alcohol microbrews. Anyone want in at the top of the pyramid? ;)

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly greens.

Protein shakes are a gimmick. You don't need that much protein and you certainly don't need the heavy metals.

Vitamins, pills, and supplements are gimmicks as well. Vitamins lose almost all their potency when they're isolated. Nature already compounds nutrients in the most bioavailable concoction possible. Nutrients in healthy foods are densely intertwined with other nutrients that work together and your body has evolved to process these mixtures efficiently.
