Has anyone had any success in offline promotion of zip/email submits lately? Whether it be by flyers, signage or good old fashioned classified ads.

The idea is to hit a whole different demographic that hasn't yet been infected with zip-submit ad blindness yet.

That sounds like an interesting approach (that can't get "slapped"). But what does "zip-submit" mean?

You know, those promotional list-building cpa programs where the visitor has to enter their email address (email submit) or their zip code (zip submit).

Classified ads don't cost very much and one would think you can get enough off of one ad to make it worth while and you can scale a successful campaign via national media buying accounts.

Kind of like a Don Lapre approach to it (for lack of a better example).

I only profited about $8 on it, but I just ran an ad in the supper club program of a church just to see if I could get away with it. Cost me $4 I made $12. Silly of course, but I just couldn't resist trying. It seems that people in churches are very grateful for those who support them. The supper club is mostly seniors so I did the health products sample one. To my surprise, they very obligingly went and popped in their zips for me.

12 responses out of 90ish supper clubbers. Not a shabby ratio at all.

Now I just have to figure out how to scale it. :)

I actually have some ideas about that. Shepherd's guides for one. Good luck with it.

Some of the local papers here print your ad in the newspaper and the online version of their classified ads. Might be worth trying out an offer with a simple landing page.

No bullshit QS to worry about either.

So this was a dating site promotion then?

Health product samples. Aspirin, vitamins, laxatives, adult diapers. Shit like that.

$1.00 zip submit.

There were apparently 90 people at the supper. The church has a Friday night meal that they prepare and folks sit around and play dominoes and canasta and shit. They hand out a little program talking about what's going to happen in church/town during the weekend.

I ran my little ad in it. It was a 2x3 display ad that basically said, "Exclusive for Supper Clubbers. Free samples. Vitamins, pain relievers, baby care and more. www.offer.mysite.info"

12 of the 90 took the time to type it in, hit the redirect and pop in a zip.

Image the response you would have received if you were using a .com instead of a .info - but still very promising considering this was the older set

I mean..... if you're going to put effort into promoting something offline why not setup your own coreg site... you won't be paid per zip or email but you will have data you collected yourself and maybe convert people with the coreg offers.

toiling outside of my house for $1 submits? sounds like a third world approach to affiliate marketing.

lol

But seriously, It doesn't have to be a zip submit. It can be any cpa offer that goes with the demographic. How about advertising a scholarship offer in the local college paper? or unemployed people at job fairs? etc.

The church idea was great, except that there weren't enough people.

I think promoting zip submits offline is way too small. In the end, let's say you end up busting your ass to make and distribute 1k flyers (and even if you don't distribute them yourself, you're still spending time on this idea - and money). What kind of conversion do you expect from this.

Even if we assume 10% (which IMO is a big conversion rate for flyers - unless you are extremely targetted like free gas cards at gas stations etc) that is only 100 conversions at ~$1.25 each.

$125 is a small amount for the time. Then you need to minus the cost of paper/ink for 1k flyers, and you are left with even less.

I think promoting offline with flyers etc is a good idea, but submits aren't the way to go.

However, you need to try it. I'm just a pessimist.
