PC vs Mac

Actually I appreciate the response in this thread. I have been a pc user for all of my life but the more I look at mac the more I want to make the switch. What is eating me up is that there are things I like about winblows and there are things I like about snowkitty. Which if you want the best of both worlds you will need to go mac with vmware to run windows.

From my point of view the things I really like with mac is the displays and the magic mouse. For anyone that does web work having a display that will show webpages beyond the typical fold and allow for dual applications to open side by side is a productive environment. Slap a laptop into it and you basically have 3 viewing areas that require no neck turning. If you have not used the magic mouse you gotta give it a try. Very impressive.

At this time I feel I could be more productive and remove any limitations by brand if I had a mac running windows through vmware. From my understanding once windows is install on vmware I can open windows programs on the mac desktop without opening windows os.

vmware to run windows.

or Parrallels, or VirtualBox (free), or just simply reboot into windows to give it full access to the entire hardware (bootcamp). I just use virtualization cuz its a lot faster to check internet explorer with that, but if I want to say fire up Portal or get nostalgic with doom3/half-life 2 I'd just reboot into windows.

The Magic mouse is actually kind of annoying when you're heavy in Photoshop. I've managed to get used to it though. Also on my macbook I use Spaces alot for the virtual desktop (something other OS have had for years, just not normally 'built-in'). Course there's no reason why you can't use a non-apple branded mouse, I've used a small Microsoft Notebook bluetooth mouse for quite a while just fine.

Vmware/Parrallels/Virtual Box are virtualization, you run an instance of Windows in a virtual machine/window of its own. If you want to run the application without running the OS you need something like Cross-Over or Darwine, which is hardly as good as just using straight virtualization.

Hey, Karl. Question.

Or anyone, for that matter. I deleted Spaces from my system in a fit of rage. Any way to download it back, or am I screwed?

Thanks.

I got pissed off at it like two years ago and swiped it away with AppCleaner.

Running Leopard at the moment. Can't find a legit download of it.

Lepoard or Snow Leopard? What bout your original disk? (far as "legit download" you're never gona find a "legit" download, but you can find a download of snow leopard very easily depending on your hardware).

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, so if you were using the same OS, I could just send you my app file but if you got rid of it with AppZapper there might be more files missing.

Have you tried running system update in the last 2 years? I remember there being new copies of Spaces from 10.5.2 to 10.5.8

I did the upgrade, because I didn't feel like resetting all the preferences, and it's running well. I don't see how a clean install could run much better.

Only poor people fight over pc or mac.

Rich people buy both and use them for whatever purpose they feel.
