Something of a tangent, a rambling I guess. Take anything you want from it.
To believe that there is an afterlife, or more importantly to work towards that afterlife, can be problematic. You miss the now, the present, the current, whatever you want to call it, the only thing that truly, essentially exists. Religious people worry that maybe they won't make it into their afterlife. If they don't follow commandments, laws, restrictions they might burn in hell or be snuffed out of existence. This fear might eat away at them. And even if they have faith that they've done what's required for the afterlife or will escape the flames by grace, the doubt persists that maybe there isn't even an afterlife to begin with.
And who can escape that doubt? We live in a logical world in a logical society where from the moment we are born we are taught to think and develop conclusions and finding a conclusion that supports a god can be hard when you see the depravity of the world. So, what happens when you live for another world, and yet are in constant fear that maybe, just maybe that world doesn't exist?
And yet people continue in their belief. It's easy to blame it on indoctrination, a lack of education, fear, and so many others things because look around you! So many cases where it's glaringly obvious. But I don't think that really gives spirituality, the divine, or whatever you want to call it justice. I know it's the internet and it's trolling and how futile all this is but I believe there is sincerity in everyone. What is the point of listing verses of dubious morality or making caricatures of faiths and religions? For amusement I'm sure but are there any real effects? Are minds or hearts changed? People believe because of things they feel and how can you argue against a feeling? Or even harder, an idea that is intertwined into someone's existence. And how can they argue back, pointing at the moon?
