Removing gluten from diet today.

^ But what does it do for you to cut out gluten?

I don't want to get into it to be honest, just go read about it. For those saying gluten free is a fad diet, that is actually partially true.

On the other hand 1 in 110 American's have actual Celiac's diesease (myself included) and that's actually a conservative estimate. That's part of what's driving the "fad diet" aspect of it (people see gluten free products in grocery stores, decide to go gluten free also).

More people going gluten free even if they don't need to would be good for you so stores stock more of the stuff you want.

Also, that's pretty freaking high, almost 1% of the population. Didn't know it was that common.

Bard's is ok, also check out Red Bridge and New Grist (slightly harder to find but the best one IMO). Fortunately the demand for gluten free beer is fucking exploding so smaller breweries have been rolling out new beers too, in case you live near any it's worth looking into.

Who ever and whatever company that is marketing to you guys is doing a good job. I need to make some gluten free food for free monies.

Ive noticed in my local store there are things that have no wheat protein at all in the first place labeled as gluten free. Must be boosting sales like crazy

its actually way more than 1% of the population, essentially if you have any european heritage you are likely sensitive to gluten in one way or another.

remember grains were not introduced into the human diet till around 10,000 years ago, and the grains back then had WAYYYY less gluten in them than the mutant, garbage grains that you eat now do.

eating gluten is connected to ADD/ADHD, depression, digestive issues (bloating, diahhrea, constipation, candida/gut pathogens), autoimmune issues, acne/skin problems, protein digestion, weight gain/fat storage, hormone imbalances, among other things

removing gluten essentially will help you get rid of that. gluten can prevent you from digesting protein & nutrients - which means you dont get the amino acids that you need - for example, tryptophan and tyrosine, which can fuck up your serotonin/dopamine production, making you depressed and unfocused. also lack of protein digestion/absorption makes it really hard to build muscle. just sayin.

in short, theres no reason to eat it. ever.

We cut out almost all grains, legumes and dairy. I dropped 25# in a few months and my wife dropped 30#+

We pretty much follow the paleo diet, but todays paleo diet is a fad diet. I hate to admit it but it is. The point of paleo/primal is to equal out your omega 3 and omega 6 intake. The goal should be a 1:1 ratio but that is extremely hard to reach.

Do not forget that your common meat products are fed grains as well, you will need to go for grass fed meats and wild meats. You should avoid farm raised fish all together.

Legumes contain lectins but there are ways to prep them to make them "safe".
Dairy should be from grass feed cows/goats and raw.

The main reason why paleo/primal is not a "low carb" diet is you are not limited on the carbs, just the type of carbs. Veggies = carbs.

i should also mention that when i am talking about 'gluten free foods' im not talking about the foods that brazenly say GLUTEN FREE!!!! on them, like the gluten free cookies and shit.

when i say gluten free i mean like, meats, fruits, nuts and fucking vegetables. though i will say i have had some BANGIN gluten free cookies and granola. but i rarely if ever eat that shit

My wife has made some really awesome "paleo" cookies and muffins. Almond flour can be great in some cases, but like all nuts should be in moderation.

Exactly. Humans have only been eating grains for about 10-12,000 years.

There are many gluten intolerance symptoms, some of which I have. I'm also doing this to kill 2 birds.. I'm looking to cut up a bit for the summer and it just so happens ridding foods with gluten means making it easier to lose fat by replacing those foods with less heavy caloric food.

Novak Djokovic former world #3 (currently #1) attributes his success in 2011 from world #3 to #1 (70-6 season record, 42+ in a row) to diet changes (gluten free) alone. I'm a huge tennis fan so this is extra incentive.

My wife's been going on about gluten intolerance too so I'm saying fuck it, let's try it for awhile and see if I notice any differences in symptoms/energy.

I'd never attempt this if there weren't gluten free beers. Hopefully this doesn't taste like shit, going to try some tonight.

Here, you might wanna take a look at this article:

Bites - Taste test: Is there such a thing as a good gluten-free beer?

also, gluten intolerance is not an autoimmune disease but can definitely cause auto immune issues over time -

It is an autoimmune disease because your immune system is mistaking gluten for an enemy and attacking itself, that is the very definition of an autoimmune disease.

If you don't have the disease, you're still going to lose weight because you're going to be eating a lot less carbs. That still doesn't mean gluten has anything to do with it.

If your intestines don't have physical damage, you're not gluten intolerant. The only way to know is to stick a camera up your ass.

I buy food from Trader Joes here in LA and most of the gluten-free shit tastes horrible.

im gluten free all the way minus 1 day a week. Have to otherwise I have stomach issues and just feel like poo

Trans Fat Free, Gluten Free, Sulfer Free, MSG Free, Refined Sugar Free, lactose intolerant...what a bunch of fucking fads. Here's the deal, people have been eating this shit for hundreds if not thousands of years. And in the past 5 years, every one of these things is now the worst possible thing you can consume. Yeah right.

People need to sack up and start eating meat, dairy, and all the other foods we've lived on since the dawn of man. I'm telling you this world has turned into a bunch of pussies.

Agreed this gluten free shit is a bunch of crap unless you have celiac disease, but there's something to be said for eating nothing but meats, legumes, nuts and veggies. That's about the best, simplest "diet" in the world. (Fuck fruit it's full of sugar. Have something once in a while for a "treat" if you have to.) If everyone ate only those 4 things half the health problems us humans have would disappear overnight...

LOL. I guess I should just sack up on my lactose intolerance and be a man and suffer for 2 hours after every time I drink milk. I gained an intolerance over night when I was 18. Every day I drank 2 big cups of milk, could handle any type of protein shake, and then all the sudden intense stomach pain. But that's just a fad right?

Ok I'll admit that the lactose intolerance was a bad inclusion in that list, but the other things really have become dietary fads that people have just invented to have something to worry and bitch about.

Definitely try it. It's amazing how much better I feel when I'm not eating carbs which includes gluten obviously and is about 90% of the time now for me but moving toward 100%. FYI You can be gluten sensitive or alergic without full on celiac.

Keep in mind though that you can't really have gluten "cheat days" as it takes about a month for your stomach lining to recover from the damage gluten can do so if you're cheating on it every week or two you'll never really get the full benefit.
