They buy low, sell high, and know how to lowball people. Of course those guys make bank. Also, doesn't hurt they have a TV show to push their "brand".

I've been to a couple of those, never bid on the whole unit after I saw the fucking absolute shit show the first couple buyers ended up with but I made some good money and ended up with a <insert sean penn voice>sweet set of tools</sean penn voice> buying up every toolbox they auctioned off unopened.
Never seen the show but IRL, they open the storage unit like 2' max for long enough for everyone to bend over and try to peer into the murky gloom, then slam the door down and try and find a sucker. If that doesn't work, they throw it wide open and pull out everything you can't see inside of (tool boxes, storage crates, sealed boxes, etc) and auction those off. Then they sell off all the trash to some poor fool for like $50 who thinks he's getting a steal but is really getting a bunch of garbage to dispose of.

Man.. I knew about pawn stars but hardcore pawn is even better; what a bunch of fucking low lives. The owner is the biggest scum bag but the customers aren't really much better.
I just started watching the reruns last month. I honestly was wondering how he has a guy that knows something about everything that has existed in the world.
We started watching Storage Wars on the weekends to laugh at them. The joke is on us.

I LOL everytime someone does a negotiation. Every single deal is done the same way... scripted as hell.... But I still somehow watch.....

Never been there myself but I got married in Vegas, my future in laws really wanted to go see the store. At the time they had tourists lined up around the building with over an hour wait to get in so they used my grandmother, sitting in a wheel chair and on oxygen to hop to the front of the line. Probably pissed off a bunch of yokels hoping to sell fake Confederate swords and stuff.
My buddy was in vegas last week for an HP conference, he went into the store and was talking to the 400lb black guy who you see in the background as the bouncer. He said that guy is absolutely huge, but they shut down the store for filming the episodes otherwise it's like 300 people in this tiny place constantly. He didn't see Rick and the gang as those guy are probably in the back room counting their money.
There is another similar show called Pawn Queens, best part is these two chicks and the tight t-shirts they wear. But one of them is ruthless bargainer..
