Six-Figure Hustlers...

errr... I don't think you've played any sports...

No, I haven't, unless you count Tennis or Rugby as a sports. In my experience, the best sports coaches I've worked with have a mix of psychology, training & tactics. There are some differences of course, as you rightly point out.

I don't think he's comparing a life coach as if you have a life coach in your office, screaming at you "JUST 20 MORE LINES OF CODE, TYPE TYPE TYPE!!".

His analogy is more like, if you're a runner but your getting winded quickly, the coach will teach you the proper breathing techniques so your not running out of breath so fast.

A good life coach on the other hand, will notice where you start to procrastinate or slow down on a project, and help you figure out if and why you may be stopping yourself from completing the project. Depending on the reason, introduce techniques to help you push through and complete the project without slowing down.

A bad life coach will tell you to close your eyes, and envision yourself completing the project, as if you just won a freaking medal for doing your job (Not their exact words). Then tell you to chant "I can do this task, I can do this task" all while clicking your heels together. And somehow by doing that, the universe will allow you to complete your project effortlessly.

Yep, that's exactly it. Although interestingly, a lot of sportspeople use mental rehearsal to good effect. But it has to be done in tandem with training.

The best coaches do nothing, but teach. Whether it's telling you the nuances of how to hit your wideouts with a play-action pass in the red zone or how to defend against perimeter shooters with a 3-2 zone defense.

If I ever had a coach who wasn't teaching the finer points of the game I'd ask for a new coach.

If I need a person to give me advice about life I'd seek out a successful older mentor, not somebody who's only success has been at teaching how to be a success. Maybe I'm just going about it the wrong way though.

It depends what you're looking for. If you need advice about life, then a mentor is the way to go. If you're looking for help on a specific issue, then coaching can be useful. Personally, I think the whole "life coach" thing is a stupid title.

The "life coach" in the article deals with high school kids, and since he's graduated high school himself he can coach about success in that regard. :D

More than likely he's been hired by upper-middle class helicopter parents who have projected their inadequacies and aspirations onto the kid and railroaded him/her into at least 2 different team sports, violin lessons, French lessons, Upper Placement classes at school and various forms of community service in hopes that little Timmy or Tammy get's accepted into the right college so that they can come out 4 years later saddled with $200,000 in debt and few job prospects; the coach's job is to make sure the kid doesn't snap from the pressure and gun down 6 or 7 classmates.

qft.

That was an interesting read. Just shows that the creative people make money. And several of the people highlighted in that article know what niche marketing is all about, forget trying to target & please everyone out there.

Honestly this was just article that should have never seen the light of day.

Really a window washer ? A truck driver ?
All of these are really weak stories.

The dude making the most money on that list is directly involved with 'marketing' and makes most of his money from 'commission'

i think we're on the right path eh

Actually I think the guy washing windows is the biggest hustler out of all of them. How many window washers do you now making six figures?

life coach = fail. thats what dads, friends and mentors are for. paying someone for advice means you have 0 friends.

"oh how do i go about asking my boss for a raise"

"im in a situation where i can make more money but..."

grow some fucking balls or go get an AA sponsor or someshit bleh happy labor day folks

I had the same thought.

Here's a guy who came to the U.S. from Tanzania. He earned a scholarship to an A-list school for Economics, so he has a few neurons firing. He goes into banking before the rug is pulled out from under him. His life, at that point, is swept away.

He refocuses and digs into something entirely new to him. And he does it as a contractor, not just an employee. He works his ass off.

That's a hustler. A survivor. He could probably do well fixing cars, selling swaps, or running guns.

Good on him.

My thoughts exactly.

And it's a job just about anyone can do, if you can make a sign with a marker and a piece of cardboard, you can wash windows.

It's just another example of how there really is no excuse why any able bodied person can't succeed in this country. The only thing stopping anyone from success is themselves.

My only question now is, how long until this guy figures out that he can pay someone else $30k-$50k/year to wash windows for him, pocket the other $50k-$70k as profit, and scale up his business? Cut his day from 16 hours to just a couple hours of management.

Sounds like a load of bullshit to me. Seriously, does that guy shake people's hands and tell them he's a life coach? Give me a break.

Anyone who needs a life coach shouldn't be living.

Close your eyes, and envision yourself completing the project
You're also a wrong about the above as well. Visualizing your goal and how you are going to get there is key before you start and while you're trying to get there as well.

There are tons of successful people out there, like some of the greatest athletes for example, that spend almost as much time visualizing what they are going to do in different situations during the game as they do actually physically practicing those same situations.

Class dismissed.

So shouldn't people who think they need acai berries to lose weight. Why you so mad bro. Can't blame those life coaches for getting $$$ for dispensing some obvious advice.

So would you also say that anyone who needs a psychologist or psychiatrist shouldn't be living either?

You're taking my example way out of context. I was talking about the guy who says "if you use positive visualization, it will magically happen!".

Of course visualizing a goal helps, it's kind of hard to achieve a goal without visualizing the process and end result.

I don't think I'll be in attendance tomorrow. :)

+1

That psycho-babble crap is retarded. A few studies even show it has either zero or negative benefit compared to doing nothing.

BTW, since when is being a hooker thinking out of the box? Hustling, well yeah, but they call it the oldest profession for a reason.
