Started a traditional ecom business....

I don't think it's going to convert very well in this WordPress theme format, doesn't look like a trustworthy established site at all. I wouldn't buy from it anyway.

In the sense of design, there are several tweaks that need to be made. Header graphic is a bit too large imo, too much empty space not being used; and Kentucky Wildcats Vintage Snapback | Snapback Hats the fonts there for the title / product information label need to be much more bold and more contrast.

An hour worth of design tweaks and you'll improve it a lot.

Definitely need some descriptions for your hats to help w/ the rankings. Also try to differentiate yourself. Maybe go with the more obsucre hats and specialty type like the black on blacks like below (i know its a fitted) red on red ect... or maybe vintage hats or whatever. Find the cool hats that are not on every other hat site. Gangster hats, Frat Boy, Spam, ect.. just think about what you see people where in the bars and places like that to get a start.

Good job spotting a trend and actually making something happen, most people never get past the idea stage. Although I gotta say I hate those style hats and anybody that wears them (e.g white boys that listen to rap, Kevin Federline, Hispanic gangsters), nevertheless I wish you success.

I'm a little distracted by all the dashed lines. Dashed is fine, but maybe make them a little more solid in places?

Also, not personal experience, but according to a/b tests, having a model for clothing rockets conversion rate. I can't remember the site that was on, but it was a site dedicated to a/b tests that was posted on here the other week.

You should also mention some sort of guarantee or return policy somewhere.

My 2 cents.

Main problem with the site is....

Not enough hats!

Say my team are the Packers - I'm fucked on your site.

You gotta have all the teams hats there.

Grazie's geo ip script to show the local hat is a wicked idea too.

How about if your IP shows you're in a 2 team town, show the two hats almost facing off to each other (just a silly little idea)

snap back hats made a comeback a few years ago here in Hawaii. popular in the surf culture.

my only question is - are you stocking up on inventory?

inventory is a terrible thing to be left with if it doesnt sell.
are you buying each hat at retail price?

I cant see you making a very big profit, unless you are buying knockoff product from china for 2 bucks and reselling for $35

First off, cool on you for outing yourself and jumping on something. Unbelievable that kids need a name for these hats. I had no clue what snapback was either.

Second... going into business with the bro... sounds like he's an interesting cat. I don't see it ending well.

But yeah, your container and breadcrumbs divs have wayyyyyy too much spacing. You're killing yourself by losing all that space above the fold.

The menu div is too big too, and the fonts suck. I hate serif fonts, especially there. Doesn't look professional or clean.

Definitely agree on the rest. Bolder buy now on the front page, and geotarget me so that your Lakers hat shows up for me, and time to hire some content writers to jam this full of keywords.

Would hot female models work to sell guys hats?

I just received a new ESPN mag in the mail today and there's actually a story about these hats coming back...so looks like you found a good trend.

I disagree with everyone saying that you should describe a snap back hat better on the site. You're not going to be successful educating traffic on what your product is..either they know what it is and want it or they don't. I assume that with the marketing your planning the only way most people are going to find your site anyways is if they're looking for this type of product. But since I glazed through this thread, maybe I missed something.

Descriptions aren't really needed, the pictures should be enough for your audience to choose what they want. But I think you need a lot more selection - which is probably only possible (inventory wise) if you have a dropshipping partner so you don't have to cover the cost up front.

it clearly doesn't matter what a snapback hat is, josh is targeting a market with organic seo using an exact match domain. It's not the job of an ecom store to explain what a product us to those who have no idea what it is, just sell a product that people are looking for already.

I would imagine the longtail traffic could be pretty good, especially with all of the sports teams. Any specific strategy you're going to take to not spread yourself too thin with ranking tasks?

What in the hell....well I guess your next step would be to swap links with me since I happen to have a snapback hats site. Are you stalking me?

Why would I buy from you and not amazon? I see better pricing on amazon. And you ain't selling adult diapers, viagra, dildos, it isn't embarasing to buy. Clothes people will PREFER to buy it in person, if it sells online, it has to be based on price. You ain't competitive, so your conversions rates won't be able to match those of others who are more competitive, sorry to say.

An ecommerce site doesn't need to beat the pricing on amazon to be successful, and more often than not, they shouldn't try to. Amazon and Ebay offer very low pricing on most things, luckily not everyone is able to search for and find the absolute best offer online - otherwise anyone who wasn't a manufacturer, or had a direct competitive edge would be screwed. This site won't sell as many hats as either of those sites, and it doesn't need to, to be very successful.

Focus on marketing and getting traffic, then you can worry more about testing and improving conversion.

Descriptions are definitely needed to give the search engines something to chomp on. I would also add a blog to the site and highlight star athletes who wear them with photos with links pointing back to your related products. This will do 2 essential things -- social proof the product and give your site fresh content that Google is looking for.

Those photos are WAY too small though. You should be able to click on them to enlarge them. Overall I think the site looks pretty good since you just started.
