Talk about airing it all out. Thanks for your feedback.

You're absolutely right. I feel like I'm racing a clock, as if this is the small window of opportunity I have before I really have to bite the bullet for the rest of my life.

The whole concept of wanting to say I'm the exception to the rule. You guys are really putting it into perspective though, and for that I really appreciate the input.

Also lose that blog (weight loss). It seems to lack purpose.

If you must, start a proper blog on some niche where it is easy to write fresh content everyday. Be it iphones, gadgets, other phones, travel (niche travel- Chose one location with good footfall), Video game fan page etc. Don't worry about about not knowing about the subject. When you write 4-5 blog posts everyday for 3 months in one topic, you will learn about that topic. If you pick the niche right, and if you are consistent in writing about it, gain some twitter followers, some pinterest followers, facebook page etc, you can add a couple thousands every month to your income. If lucky make it several thousands...

For blogging chose a topic about which you get several of google alerts everyday. Also subscribe to tons of rss feeds, and just rewrite.. Just do it everyday. This is for your wife BTW.

I was considering the weight loss route because a women who hired me to setup her fitness web site had a weight loss transformation story and a loyal fanbase that followed her when she decided to monetize by becoming a BeachBody coach (basically an MLM).

Figured if my wife, a mother of 4, could pull off a similar transformation paired with what I know, we could triple the results of the recipe.

Stay away from a job.

Take the risk and throw 10,000 into your IM strategy.

Whether you have balls or are conservative, your going to live and then die.

You can die in the bleachers or you can die on the field, so you might as well get on the field of life and have a good time.

Tough call...

The main problem here is you have 4 kids to support. So taking risks is pretty much out of the question.

Get a job and do the school thing. Work on IM with what ever time you have left over. But when I say work on IM I don't mean dick around doing the shit you're doing now... You have a lot of stuff to learn if you want to create a real business online.

Fuck programming.

Unless you want to make a career out of it or you plan on opening up a programming company. You will never get rich doing programming work. You will always be working for someone else.

So fuck programming. You're good enough where you're at. Now you need to branch off and start learning something else that's going to add some value to your tool box of knowledge.

I would recommend learning marketing and some copywriting of some sort... If you really want to crawl out of your situation and start making real money you need to start learning a skill that will take you to the next level. If you're a good enough marketer you can literally sell anything for money. But it's not something you can learn over night, so start working on it now. Read popular marketing books and start learning. I think it's the best possible skill you can have for not only this industry, but for offline as well.

I always tell people that betting your future on shit like SEO and Programming is a risky gamble. I know SEO won't be around 10-15 years from now, But learning something like marketing will always be a valuable skill.

If there's search engines, there will be SEO.

Not sure I'd bet on Google not being around in 10-15 years.

How you access it is liable to change, but people will still want to search the web for things, and there'll be still people that optimise websites (or whatever websites become) to get more exposure via such channels.

My votes:

Fuck the military. You're going to get deployed into some worthless invasion of Iranistan if you're active reserve. It will take you from your family and destroy any business you have going.

Fuck school, especially for programming. You can get started in that field without it. School will delay your plans in life by years and in the end, it will probably be a financial net loss.

Fuck gambling with your savings. You can't risk it when you're supporting kids, obviously. But even if you were alone, I would tell you the same thing: you need a monthly budget surplus to funnel into your ongoing business efforts before you even consider dropping money into lead generation or whatever.

Let me reiterate that: your first priority should be arranging your life and personal finances such that you have an ongoing monthly surplus of money that you can dedicate solely toward your business. Start a savings account to hold the money allocated for that purpose. Once you've saved up a few grand and got a specific plan of action, execute.

To be fair, I'd probably ask this same question in a military forum too. You're going to get biased answers here.

My main questions are more important:
- Do you TRULY ENJOY the hustle for your web design stuff so far?
- Do you want to lead or be led?
-- If you want to lead, do you have an eye for finding talented people, and the balls to go for it?

Question #1 is about the hustle, not about the web design. Do you like the unstructured, chaotic process of starting to run your business? Military is structured. This is not. If you don't like it, RUN. It only gets crazier for a while...

Your military experience should help you answer #2 quickly. #3 will help determine if you're able to actually hire someone, which is many of our biggest problems here.

If you DO want to run your own show, and have loved it so far, I honestly don't see the point of higher education right now. Your time is better spent learning by failure and reading books. If that's the case, get whatever job you can and grind on your own time, with set time for family no matter what.

I enjoy the hustle to the point where it's unhealthy. I spend my weekend's working because there is nothing else I'd rather do. So much so that my wife and I have set aside "family time" to be sure that I don't neglect them in my passion.

Leading is something that has always come natural, and I've always wanted to be the example. In environments where I am being led, I've proven myself capable of being left alone and performing at the top 10%.

I have no idea if I can spot talented people. In fact, I'd say my bullshit radar needs some calibration. I can tell you that in the military, I've been forced to train retards, and in most cases, I've discovered unique ways to max their potential. If anything, that's worth a look.

boatBurner: What's your MOS and rank?

I'm a Corporal (E-4) and a Field Radio Operator (0621) for our TACP (I'm sure you know what that is).

I think I self-actualize pretty well. I'm stubborn, I do wild shit in the name of getting things done, a bit hardheader, but I learn very quickly. I can sell face-to-face, I can articulate like a mother fucker, I can explain complex ideas to simpletons. I know I have a lot of qualities that would make for a good businessperson. I'd say the strongest lesson the military has taught me is accountability. Where I used to blame others for things fucking up, now if I had any remote form of involvement, I accept nearly all responsibility for a mishap because I've seen what a missed opportunity to fix a fucked situation looks like, and how to call it out / never do it again.

Time and obligation are the problem. And as a reminder, going to school wouldn't even be in this equation if it weren't for the $1,400/mo coming my way from Uncle Sam. Because of that, it's a worthwhile decision.

10 K savings is not much man considering you have 4 kids, shit can happen anytime, I suggest saving maybe another 10 k just to be on the safe side, and another important thing,

for once, bust a nut inside a plastic rather than a warm pocket.

The size of an airing cupboard varies. It is typically located near a stairway landing or along a hall, and it is often close to a location where hot water is used, such a bathroom or kitchen. Depending on the heating and cooling system involved, the cupboard may hold a hot water heater, a boiler for hot water and steam heat, or some other form of heater.

OK, then you clearly want to do this and you don't have a point to go to school....

OK, I see the point. How many hours per day will school cost you? You sure you can't make $1400/mo using that time for doing some other work?

$1400/mo / 22 working days = $63/day. You can easily make that pounding out content or finding some M-F internship for $20/hr, no?

I don't have the wife and kids, but if you have a passion for something, I don't know why you'd allow things to get in your way of full actualization that comes as soon as possible.
