Tell Me Where to Temporarily Move

St. Louis -- We have the cardinals. I also have no friends. We can start a mastermind syndicate and take over a small country... with our minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Serious places:

Texas - Great economy if you can deal with the humidity.
Colorado - Health & Fitness... and the Broncos. Rated #1 most healthy populace.

Non-serious locations:

Chicago, IL - When you come over the interstate you can see the sky go from blue to brown. Pretty neat.

Los Angeles, California - Same as above + ridiculous taxes + way too many liberals and threat of an earthquake.

Las Vegas, NV - A great way to spend money. Want to feel like a King on the daily? Expect to have sexual encounters with many women and possible trannys if your not careful. :p

San Diego, CA - Be one of the many internet marketers that decided for some reason SD was the place to be. Still trying to figure this out myself...

Wyoming - Uhh... so you can tell us what the hell is in Wyoming. lol

I think SanDiego is so popular nowadays because they're like SanFran with that huge bay and so much to do, but their temperature is as steady as a rock... Like nowhere else in the country. (Even better than LA, while less polluted.)

I'm giving serious thought to making SD my winter haunt, when I'm not in SE Asia.

I plan to move with the season more... Been to busy to really do that these last couple of years and have been stuck in KC but this summer I'm finally busting out and heading up north until Turkey Day, then heading to SD or all the way to BKK for the winter.

The hard part is keeping up with your shit stateside. -I'm going with storage this time... Sucks keeping an apartment for a long time when you're not there at all.

No offence to the Aussies, but I can't believe Melbourne is voted the 2nd best City to live in over the 5th placed London. Unless fuckin cyclones and killer spiders are your thing.

Melbourne isn't tropical so we don't get cyclones, Queensland does though. We don't really get any serious weather events here.

Melbourne is a shithole. Brisbane is fucking awesome, just gotta wait a year for it to rebuild a bit.

Edit: And that list gave Chicago a 6.6 for weather... And it rates LA #12 and 7/10 for fresh air?!?!?!

for the record... cyclones & bad spiders/snakes are more north then melbourne.

Sorry, had no idea the extremes were up north and the earthquakes only tend to measure between 6 and 7 so doesn't seem too bad. Still don't like the spiders though! Would like to move to a Spanish island next year, the weather and everything else is just right around there.:)

San Diego like Luke P, I'm also thinking about doing something like this, but get homesick real quick, with like 95% of my family and friends near me. I'll tell you what though, really thinking about doing the winter thing in Sandiego next winter, so if you ngo, or lukep or whatever want to split a 3 way penthouse or something i'm down. <---serious.

When you come to Chicago, hit me up for sure!

San Diego, Las Vegas is where I'd go if the main goal is to have some fun... If you want to work more, Portland, Seattle, Denver are great. Texas has really nice girls and people overall - Dallas... Houston is ok. I like Carolinas as well. Myrtle Beach is nice. May want to pick a city in Florida if you like warm ocean and nice fishing.

As for midwest, I lived all over for a few years, its ok, but not going back. Chicago is the most decent city there, but dirty and has a lot of weird people.

Not sure for the east coast, I've only been to NY for a few summers and loved it...

I'd advice you to go somewhere where you know people though... Usually its not the city that is cool, but the people you know there that make it that way. You may love snowboarding and move to Colorado, Washington, Idaho (Sandpoint is a lovely small town btw too), but if you don't have anybody to go with, its not going to be fun, you'll probably get bored quick and dislike the city.

As you said, there are IM'ers in every city, but what do these people do? It's not going to be fun for you if they grind 24/7... Go somewhere where you have a friend that does fun things at least on the weekends and have similar interests. If you know Ngo well, move to Atlanta if he doesn't mind. :) It can be a great place too if you don't mind humidity and a few other inconveniences...

I also agree with some people here, if you want a different experience, go international.

Seriously Though, try out somewhere in the north east during the summer time...the weather is really nice and you can go to cali or miami in the winter if you like warm.

Every single place you listed including Wyoming is better than Texas. Texas is the asshole of America (meaning nothing but shit seems to come out of it).

Thanks for all the thread action. Here are my thoughts to this point :

-I can't go intl at this point just because I'm too tied up with business here in the good ol USA.

-I'm not doing this to go out and have fun/party in the best cities in the USA. I'm actually trying to focus on business MORE, by separating myself from family/friends. I just want to focus in a much nicer area than shit WNY.

-I definitely want to live on the west coast at some point (Seattle, SD), right now it'd be a bitch to figure out. I've got my car that will be full with stuff, and just a little room left in it for my dog. There's no way I can coast-to-coast in 1 leg by myself, and finding hotels that allow pets along the way could be annoying. Also I feel like I should save that for the winter time (SD at least).

-I kind of want to make Seattle in the summer happen...just really dreading actually getting there. I hate long drives to begin with...

You're over thinking it. It's not that bad, you just need to get your dog used to car travel if it's not already. If you want alone time, it'd a pretty good drive, and you could stop in some cool places.

I have worked in 46 states and lived in at least a dozen. I think you should hit the major cities in route;
DC
Atlanta
Miami
Tampa
New Orleans
Houston
Dallas
Phoenix
San Diego
LA
Vegas
San Francisco
Portland
Seattle
Boise (I know not major, but still)
Salt Lake
Denver
St Louis
Chicago
Detroit
CLeveland
Pittsburg
Philly
Than back home to NYC.

This way you have hit the big spots and will know your favorites.

FWIW, my favorite spot is Santa Barbara, CA.. just north of LA.. check it out.. you might not want to leave!

Hot girls in SD for sure. Plus SD probably has the most temperate weather. My favorite part is North County San Diego along the coast, places like Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff, and Solana Beach.
