Tell Me Where to Temporarily Move

-I definitely want to live on the west coast at some point (Seattle, SD), right now it'd be a bitch to figure out. I've got my car that will be full with stuff, and just a little room left in it for my dog. There's no way I can coast-to-coast in 1 leg by myself, and finding hotels that allow pets along the way could be annoying. Also I feel like I should save that for the winter time (SD at least).

-I kind of want to make Seattle in the summer happen...just really dreading actually getting there. I hate long drives to begin with...

Drive? Sell or store your car and get one where you're going. Ship your stuff and it'll be there in a few days. Ship your dog on the same plane as the one you're flying on and he'll arrive at the same time... 6 hours later instead of the 3 days or whatever it takes to drive across the country.

Seriously, it's a little stressful but it's not that difficult to relocate yourself. I did it from Vancouver Canada to the south of Spain and we had 3 sq meters of stuff and our cat sent here. Our friends (my ex boss) had their golden Lab sent over. My other friends just returned to Vancouver after living here for over 5 years and sent their dog and 2 cats back with them. Yeah, the animals arrive a little stressed and rumpled but it's not that big a deal. They quickly recover from the ordeal.

As for places to live, Seattle is an awesome city. It's just 2.5 hours away from Vancouver. I've loved NYC every time I've been there and could see myself living there for a year. Since I've lived surrounded by water my whole life I can't imagine living anywhere landlocked. Just about anywhere on both the east coast and west coast of the US is appealing.

Internationally, I would like to get a place in Ibiza but I'd like to try living in a few other places in Europe still. The list is too long to really post though.

St Augustine, Fl. Not a lot to do but sit on the beach and/or work. Lots of nice condos available. Cooler than Tampa, Miami, peak season is summer.

Golden, Bolder, Ft Colins, Colorado or if you want smaller Frisco, it's great area in the summer and right around vail, a basin, copper mtn, vail, lots of skiing in the winter. Aspen == $$$$$.

@BlueYonder, I had heard it was pretty expensive in SF with Opra and other "celebs" building huge places and jacking taxes up. There is a good mexican restaurant in an old train station.

Chicago's great, but hot and humid in the summer and cold and windy in the winter. Live north of town. If you are a true baller you might want to look at Kenilworth.

If you take your dog to hawaii doesn't it have to be kenneled until they know it's not going to kill everyone on the island with some rare disease?

^ You can get away with 24hour animal quarantine if you have the right tests/blood stuff done well in advance.

I've thought about this a lot, actually. If you're staying the states, I would say to check out New Orleans, Southern California, Northern Cali (if you're into wine), and Austin.

Abroad, check out Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and....all of Italy.

If you're looking for a place with good people, you can't beat the South. New Orleans would be a good place to start, although you did just miss Mardi Gras. Rent is cheaper than up in the Northeast, and you aren't far from the beach in Biloxi, Gulf Shores, etc.
