The Debate the just ended......

Hopefully one of the folks on here who can articulate themselves better than me will respond. However, I'm not a college kid. I'm 36, have 4 kids, a house, etc... My father and several of his friends I know are supporting RP. They are in their 60's and either in retirement or nearing it.

I know plenty of people near my age with young children who ARE RP supporters as well.

We aren't all college kids in other words.

Are you supporting him because you genuinely agree with his ideas, or is it because you are a conservative who finds the rest of the republican field insane?

20 years ago I would have said I was a democrat. I grew up poor and watched my parents work their asses off and go to school at night (both have masters now) to improve their lives. So while I remember being broke as a kid - that's a long time ago. For most of my life my parents have been well off, and I've made good money for over 25 years now. Even in Highschool I made good money waiting tables.

I barely paid attention to politics. It didn't affect me.

I didn't take hand outs, etc... I paid for my own college.... I didn't benefit from the social system in anyway. Except my Mother is a Dem - because she worked for the state :)

As my kids got older I realized I was conservative deep down. I mean afterall I have to balance my budget, save for their college, and my retirement.

If I've got to follow the rules - hell so should my government. I would have said I was a conservative democrat... because we are the greatest nation in the world we can and should help those less fortunate.

As more and more "Government" policies pissed me off over the years I realized I wasn't even a Democrat of any strip anymore. Want to watch me get worked up? Make more laws that restrict my freedom to chose for myself. I'd personally like a little trans fat in my chicken - and I'd like to eat it while not wearing a seat belt.

I've never been able to say that I'm a Republican with a straight face. Even though I am well off, they don't work for people at my income level (or yours most likely). The whole trickle down crap is a huge failure from Reagan years that is really trickle down poverty.

I'm not pro-life OR religious. I think both of those things don't belong in Government hands.

I've never thought of myself as a Libertarian until the last election either. I'm not sure I am one of those either.

I guess I'm not a Democrat, a Republican, or even a Libertarian.

Turns out I'm all for a much smaller government - and one not owned by corporations or billionaires that are out to screw me and you anyway they can.

The best damn idea I've heard is a national vote on a fair flat tax, coupled with all levels of government only allowed xx dollars per year in campaign funding.

I does seem that that every single Republican (to be honest Paul included) on that straw poll panel had Jesus juice before the event started. And I can't help but think MOST of our elected officials are insane - or at least owned by the corporations.

Somehow or another I can't imagine RP being owned by them. It's not in their best interests to have Mr. No running things I would say.

Be interesting to see a breakdown on who funds his congressional campaigns though. Anyone got an idea if it's all people or if there are corporations that do as well?

Ohh and I guess I didn't really answer. I DO agree with ideas for the most part.... and the rest of the Republicans seem to be crazy :)

At least RP's crazy is based on the constitution and limited to the powers of the executive branch.

Sad really that this guy gets brushed aside. I have disagreements with him - but with others too.

Though the clip showed him saying there were no nukes in Iraq and no AQ in Iraq.

You sure there were no WMD's on the convoy of trucks leaving Iraq at the time? What about what Wired reported from WikiLeaks?

He also mentioned there was no AQ in Iraq. OK maybe, maybe not - even CFR.org leaves it open though they believe that AQI vowed allegiance to OBL after the invasion. Either way they are there now and better to fight them there than here.

So there's 2 things to quibble over in a 5 second clip where he only makes 2 points. If he is going to make points like these he needs to clarify. And I am sorry to all the RP supporters but most of the right wing believes in stopping terrorists and rogue nations proactively - these days you cannot wait until after they have a nuke.
