"The End Times" bullshit.

How about you say something along the lines of, "Thanks for the input. After much deliberation, we're still going to have another child though."

Why are your parents and grandparents are still telling you and your wife what to do?

Fucking christians. I remember hearing that same bullshit all the time at church when I was younger..

Ditto, I grew up with this shit too. It's extremely common for Christians to believe that the apocalypse will happen in their lifetime.

This is just one of the many reasons Christians make terrible leaders and politicians.. many don't plan or care about the future because Jesus is comin soon anyway.. so fuckit.

People's willingness to believe fables and base political and life decisions on them just makes me fucking sick anymore.

Luckily the Athiest population is growing... eventually we might even be able to kick their fucking asses out of office.

Yeah, those fucking Christians! Who needs them? Let's build a fucking concentration camp and send them all there to be gassed!

This is your weak attempt at trying to turn my argument into something it's not. In reality, you agree with my sentiments but know no other way of displaying it.

So I'll just respond as though you did.. "Haha hellblazer, I know right? Some of those christian's ideas are surely incorrect!"

Well you know how I feel about having kids in this world... ;)

And you probably know how I feel about christians too...

As much as it pains me to say it; let them believe. They're well past 'saving.'

As for Hellblazer's dumbass comment; We atheists do not stoop to christianity's level. No gas chambers for you; we just want you away from the lawmaking process, which could in fact lead to the gas chambers for us if left unchecked!

Yours?

I used to be super into end times stuff before I became an atheist. Read all the left behind books, read books about bible prophecy, even went to prophecy seminars. Saw tim lahaye collapse once at the podium at moody bible institute from some heart thing, and all I could remember is being pissed off that he was the only one I wanted to see that day. Maybe I wasn't a true christian

This used to be a favorite site of mine http://prophecytoday.com/

I'm 30, and I honestly can't remember a time when it wasn't the "end times", and the world wasn't going to end in the near future. Been hearing that shit since I was a kid, and we're all still here. All this "end times" bullshit confirms is that the media is good at enstilling fear into the populous.

I totally agree with you. I remember when Y2K was all the rage and now it's 2012....I guess we'll just have to see what happens next year but you're right the "end of the world" topic has been constantly discussed repeatedly for years.

Anyone else run into this shit with family members? My wife and I have a daughter that's just about 2 yrs old and we want to have 1 more so she can have a sibling. 2 seems like a good number, no more than that.

Anyhow, we mention our plans from time to time to her side of the family, particularly her mother and her grandmother and they come back with "I don't know, with the way things are going, these seem like the end times", as if to say it's not worth it because the world is ending?

My response is always the same.. We've survived the dark ages, the great depression, 2 world wars & a holocaust.. and these are the end times?

Fucking christians. I remember hearing that same bullshit all the time at church when I was younger.

Every year has been the end of the world. Every flood is a sign, every tornado outbreak is a sign, every war is a sign.

I'm constantly reminding family members about what a monsoon season is, or what storm cycles are, and how all of this has happened over and over in recorded history, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with access to public records and history books.

Is it a stretch to guess that you grew up in a baptist family too? The religion just about borders on dooms day cult (the northern/mid-west baptists especially), and it gets worse every year.

Northern/mid-west baptists especially?!?

You ain't seen shit until you've lived through Southern baptists! "Bordering on a Cult" doesn't even fit those fools anymore... They congregate by the Tens of Thousands every Sunday in Churches bigger than football stadiums (like this one) all across the south and talk like that... Keeping the sheeple scared enough to donate money each weekend and come back the next for salvation...

Their congregations often stretch across state lines and they'll even have their own TV shows for when you can't make it into service...

There are hundreds or thousands of small towns across the south where if one person were to drop out of the baptist church, all other townspeople would shun him like a damn leper!

But I suspect it's fear of shunning that keeps their ranks so huge, and fear of god's wrath during the 'end of times' in general that keeps them going at all. I've known quite a few of them in my youth, even dating a die-hard baptist chick in college. (That didn't last long... She was saving her virginity for jebus!)

Anyway, I just can't imagine baptists anywhere else being half as bad.

Good, they'll be less likely to reproduce.

Sounds like evangelicals? Or tele-evangelicals? Are those baptists? I'm way behind on the whole culture now.

On your ex-gf, at least she was consistent. Way too many "do as I say, not as I do"'ers.
