I woke up at 6 A.M. (EST) on a school day to get the 3 years of shared hosting for $40, and didn't even see it. Apparently it only lasted 2 minutes. Bluehost also has a deal on shared hosting ($3.95/month for minimum of 1 year), but it seems Hostgator is preferred, and I haven't had any problems with them.
My new goal is to outgrow shared hosting within 5 months so it wouldn't have been that crazy anyways. There's always next black friday as well.
I've got a stack of resellers there and for years I sang their praises... But lately and today especially I'm getting the feeling that they've changed. So yea, the chat support is alone worth me sticking with them. My weakest part is the technical side. So I really did need a hosting company that is available all the time, with reps that actually know what they are doing.
fail rant :music07:
just sayin. no school day after thanksgiving llol![]()
Did you expect the HostGator CEO to be on the other end of their '24 hour live chat'? Don't get angry at poor Justin, he didn't plan the promotion. Justin has to listen to people like you complain about the company he has no control over, all day. This was a classic scam and fraud on the part of Hostgator.
They had 100 accounts and the sale only lasted 3 minutes, when it was advertised for 4 hours. I woke up especially for this, and I love my beauty sleep.
The customer service supervisor I talked to, Justin, told me that no one at the call center had the authority to make the decision to give out the 80%. He said they had had HUNDREDS of complaints and that management did not care what negative publicity they got from it.
I told him it was bait-and-switch marketing. I said I was preparing a complaint to the FTC. I said I would create a webpage talking about how shitty their customer service was. He pretty much said there was nothing he could do, that management was indifferent, and no one there had the authority to do it. I thought I was dealing with Google customer support for a second.
I hear some people saying how HostGator is "the best ever", but I will never use them or recommend them again. Customer service is big in a hosting environment and if their customer service sucks, AND they don't have good prices, I'm wondering how they are still in business.
If you want a good webhost, I recommend Rackspace, Liquidweb, or SLHost. For cheap webhosting check out Nearlyfreespeech.net.
Monday is only going to be 50% off? I guess I'll spring for it and go for 1 year, so it expires around the time next black friday comes around. It was pretty clearly stated in all the affiliate emails that the 80% offer was only "while supplies last"
tbh I would've expected them to only give out 20-30 accounts vs 100.
P.S. you can still get 50% off on monday using coupon "cybermonday2010"
