the irony of HostGator struggling during the first minutes of 80% OFF..

I hope you realise this "special" is for new customers only.

*Price Reflects 50% OFF First Invoice / New Customers Only

So all of you have falled for this landing page just like your acai berry / bizopp customers for flogs LMAO

P.S. All their coupons, sales etc. only 1 time per account, if you are long-term with them for some time you should know that already.

I was a "new customer" so that wasn't the issue.

Though I should have known that "limited accounts @ 80%" was probably a trick all along!

I woke up at 6 A.M. (EST) on a school day to get the 3 years of shared hosting for $40, and didn't even see it. Apparently it only lasted 2 minutes. Bluehost also has a deal on shared hosting ($3.95/month for minimum of 1 year), but it seems Hostgator is preferred, and I haven't had any problems with them.

My new goal is to outgrow shared hosting within 5 months so it wouldn't have been that crazy anyways. There's always next black friday as well.

fail rant :music07:

just sayin. no school day after thanksgiving llol:D

yea well i woke up at 5 am EST like a dumbass and it wasn't there so i went back to bed lol. it was still 4am CST heh

So yea, the chat support is alone worth me sticking with them. My weakest part is the technical side. So I really did need a hosting company that is available all the time, with reps that actually know what they are doing.
I've got a stack of resellers there and for years I sang their praises... But lately and today especially I'm getting the feeling that they've changed.

I used to get on that chat support and it was like 100 reps waiting you're #2 in line. Today I was 47th in line with 24 reps assiting others... And they should damn well know on black friday, with the influx of newbs they're going to need shitloads of reps on hand.

The ones I do get through to these days seem to all have about 5 other people in other chat windows at the same time... One even admitted it to me... So they don't bother to work hard for you, just state the obvious and then tell you to put in a ticket.

-Any indian can do that... Why pay Texans to do the same?

Oh yeah, they now charge $15 for every restore, too. -Which they only back up weekly... And their IP addresses cost way to much. -Bastards are nickel-dime happy over there nowadays.

I'm moving to a Serverint VPS soon. Hostgator's gone way downhill.

Don't worry bros.

I got through.

Woke up to an email saying that they couldn't honor it.

Hostgator ftl.

This was a classic scam and fraud on the part of Hostgator.

They had 100 accounts and the sale only lasted 3 minutes, when it was advertised for 4 hours. I woke up especially for this, and I love my beauty sleep.

The customer service supervisor I talked to, Justin, told me that no one at the call center had the authority to make the decision to give out the 80%. He said they had had HUNDREDS of complaints and that management did not care what negative publicity they got from it.

I told him it was bait-and-switch marketing. I said I was preparing a complaint to the FTC. I said I would create a webpage talking about how shitty their customer service was. He pretty much said there was nothing he could do, that management was indifferent, and no one there had the authority to do it. I thought I was dealing with Google customer support for a second.

I hear some people saying how HostGator is "the best ever", but I will never use them or recommend them again. Customer service is big in a hosting environment and if their customer service sucks, AND they don't have good prices, I'm wondering how they are still in business.

If you want a good webhost, I recommend Rackspace, Liquidweb, or SLHost. For cheap webhosting check out Nearlyfreespeech.net.

^^^
I can only advice you to make more money in order to sleep well and do not care about any "specials" or so. Way too many people it seems become crazy about it.

P.S. The best ever....well they know how to promote them well, that's for sure.

P.P.S lol at the tag(s)

Congratulations! You have earned a new commission in the HostGator Affiliate Program.

It was pretty clearly stated in all the affiliate emails that the 80% offer was only "while supplies last"

tbh I would've expected them to only give out 20-30 accounts vs 100.

P.S. you can still get 50% off on monday using coupon "cybermonday2010"

Did you expect the HostGator CEO to be on the other end of their '24 hour live chat'? Don't get angry at poor Justin, he didn't plan the promotion. Justin has to listen to people like you complain about the company he has no control over, all day.

Monday is only going to be 50% off? I guess I'll spring for it and go for 1 year, so it expires around the time next black friday comes around.

i got the 80% discount. I had the order page loaded at 6.03 and it worked. the shit is they canceled my order because I was already a customer. BS

Yeah, I was disappointed. I sent two friends to get their first hosting accounts at 80% off and neither one of them were able to get it. They ended up with the 50% off, but obviously that's not nearly as good a deal on a 3 year package.

tommur, man, something tells me you are as pathetic as people from other black friday thread there where they trampling on video.... you waited like 1.5 years to make post about you (or your friends) missing deal on black friday ? LOL

I seriously love how this board is supposedly full of "marketers" yet we get people crying that they got "scammed" when this is such a common technique - and not illegal.
