the reality of health care in the US...I love Professor Richard Wolff

Sounds like socialist democrats to me. There are way too many government giveaways. People need to re-learn to fend for themselves.

He's completely wrong about buying meds in bulk. Its walgreens, walmart, target, ect... They buy all their meds in bulk.

Its more about regulation issues, lawsuits, patent's and all the other BS that isn't allowed in other countries that keeps the cost high. Selling meds to the USA vs selling meds to china you have a hell of a lot more to worry about. One person gets sick and dies off your meds that you sold for $100, well there goes a 5 million dollar lawsuit.

--FYI: I used to run pharmacies --

Countries who have a national health set a standard price nationwide per drug, usually based on an agreed profit level for the pharmaceutical companies. That gives much better bargaining leverage for a big health service like Germany or the UK than walgreens or someone similar.

He's missing something important though - there's no way the insurance , private hospital and pharmaceutical companies will sit back and watch their business destroyed by politicians they paid good money to get into office.

All of the comments about communism in this thread are appropriate considering Richard Wolff is a Marxist. He is a writer for Rethinking Marxism | RETHINKING MARXISM. He also explains some of these beliefs on his site at Frequently Asked Questions | Professor Richard D. Wolff.

Wolff may teach economics, but he doesn't seem to understand some basic concepts like how supply affects pricing. I'm referring to his comments on doctors' salaries.

I urge anyone who agrees with Wolff and wants more government control of health care to watch this video:

Here is an article that explains the history of some of the problems in our health care industry today:

he doesn't want more control by THIS government or any US government the way things are set up in this country. If we were as civilized as Germany, Norway, the Nertherlands, etc are then we could entertain that concept.

USA being the ONLY first world country with no social health care is shameful and perplexing. Disgusting.

#4Eliminate all subsidies to the sick or unhealthy. Subsidies create more of whatever is being subsidized. Subsidies for the ill and diseased promote carelessness, indigence, and dependency. If we eliminate such subsidies, we would strengthen the will to live healthy lives and to work for a living. In the first instance, that means abolishing Medicare and Medicaid.

bwahahahahah got cancer at 70 with no family??? tough luck buddy!!! we aint giving you any handouts here! as you know, ONLY FAT SLOBS GET CANCER...lolololol

Most people that get cancer are skinny slobs. It's been proven in a lot of medical journals the best alternative medicine for cancer is eating a lot of cheese burgers and processed foods. Fat kills the cancer cells.

i appreciate the humor but come on seriously...

who in their right mind would think that only unhealthy fat slobs get cancer?

Why don't you take a look at how Greece is doing? How about Spain?

Greece is fine. It looks just like Canada.

It started the same way for them.

"Let's socialize healthcare... I mean these are people's lives at stake!"

"Let's retire everyone at 60 and give them pensions.. I mean these are old people. They deserve to retire!"

"Let's nationalize a few industries.. I mean these greedy corporations are making a killing and we want some of it!"

Next thing you now, unemployment is skyrocketing, 42% of their GDP are government workers (WTF?), they can't borrow because their yields are 17%+, and they are about to default.

Hmm... wonder why we aren't so enthusiastic.
