the reality of health care in the US...I love Professor Richard Wolff

Why don't you take a look at how Greece is doing? How about Spain?

are you guys for real? lol...

the only reason this country is not collapsed already is because the Fed keep printing dollars like toilet paper.

ok, ill leave this here as REQUIRED VIEWING:

It started the same way for them.

"Let's socialize healthcare... I mean these are people's lives at stake!"

"Let's retire everyone at 60 and give them pensions.. I mean these are old people. They deserve to retire!"

"Let's nationalize a few industries.. I mean these greedy corporations are making a killing and we want some of it!"

Next thing you now, unemployment is skyrocketing, 42% of their GDP are government workers (WTF?), they can't borrow because their yields are 17%+, and they are about to default.

Hmm... wonder why we aren't so enthusiastic.

Sweden, Norway, Germany and about half of the european union nations have governments that spend a higher percent of GDP than does Greece. Not that big government spending is good, but there is obviously other factors contributing to the problems in Greece.

As for health care spending, per capita in 2007 :

USA = $7,300 total, $3,200 paid by the government
Canada = $3,900 total, $2,800 paid by the government
Greece = $2,700 total, $1,600 paid by the government

he doesn't want more control by THIS government or any US government the way things are set up in this country. If we were as civilized as Germany, Norway, the Nertherlands, etc are then we could entertain that concept.

USA being the ONLY first world country with no social health care is shameful and perplexing. Disgusting.

Switzerland and Singapore don't have socialized medicine. Singapore is one of the healthiest countries in the world, spends less as a % of GDP than most European countries, and care is more affordable there than just about anywhere.

"Singapore has a universal healthcare system where government ensures affordability, largely through compulsory savings and price controls, while the private sector provides most care."

They MAKE you save money that can only be used for healthcare.

"Singapore’s well-established healthcare system comprises a total of 13 private hospitals, 10 public (government) hospitals and several specialist clinics, each specializing in and catering to different patient needs, at varying costs."

A McDonalds manager could manage that many hospitals. There is no comparison or argument for the U.S to do anything similar to Singapore - totally different circumstances, requires totally different approach.

So what? It's a better system than Medicare or Medicaid.

Here, I have a compromise that works for everyone. I already pay 35% of my income to the government. How about we find a way to pay for socialized medicare without increasing my taxes and without running a deficit?

Oh wait..... our government can't even break even with all of our current social programs.

So basically, your saying one of two things:

A. You want the U.S.A to run at a larger deficit.

or

B. You want to raise my taxes.

Which one? Both sound dumb.
