The USSA just keeps getting worse...

Its not congress' job to interfere. I get annoyed by ads on websites, and really annoyed by musical ads on websites when I have 100 tabs open and can't find the right one, but I sure as hell don't think congress should interfere.

100% correct. There are plenty of options to avoid loud ads, like balanced audio. For those who don't have that or can't afford, you can always mute... Not sure why congress thinks they have the right to interfere with this, but it's much absurd.

This is definitely welcomed from me and my wife.. I cannot fucking STAND having to turn the TV down immediately after a show we're watching stops for a commercial break; our baby is sleeping and then gets woken up by the increase in volume. Seriously, I have my TV set at a certain volume, I want it to stay there.

Oh thank you kind overlord government for using your excessive power for something actually good.

^ THIS

I'm constantly scrambling for the remote during commercials, as sometimes they sounds literally twice as loud. Sometimes I put it on mute, but then don't realize when the show is coming back on and miss a minute or five lol

I don't really understand all the hatred for regulation in the US. I'd love it if Canada would introduce the same sort of legislation up here. Isn't regulation designed to protect people not oppress them. If it had been in place regarding mortgages, derivatives trading and futures speculation then we probably wouldn't be living in this shit ass economy.

The reality is that corp america loves to promote deregulation because its in their interests. They can fuck around with people as much as they like and make as much money as possible ... then when it blows up in their faces they'll be standing at the gov'ts door asking for a handout.

Perhaps it is. Unfortunately, the result is oftentimes the latter.

If it had been in place regarding mortgages, derivatives trading and futures speculation then we probably wouldn't be living in this shit ass economy.

Nope. That's the fault of deregulation. It's the fault of the Fed that flooded the market with cheap money and the government for guaranteeing all the loans through Fannie & Freddie. If the banks were on the hook for the money, they would have never made those loans (not to mention Moody's assigning the derivatives A+ credit).

The reality is that government oversteps it's boundaries set forth by the Constitution and fucks up everything in the process - whether it's intentional or an unintended consequence.

And then they overstep their boundaries again "fixing" the problem, and cause more unintended consequences. Some people get very wealthy exploiting those consequences.

Why don't they just make TV's go up to 8, and make that the loudest?
The adverts would then be 2 lower. Problem solved.

I have to shel out $$$ for this new spec of dail norm -27 vs my typical -10 mixes. Bah Humbug!

Make it LOUD!!!!!!!!!!
Its funny that people on a forum who like to blast links and whatnot have a problem with blasting sound. I say BLAST MY LINKS AS LOUD AS THEY CAN GO

Dial it up to 11!

Anyone stream music on Slacker? I'm listening to music at a reasonable level at my desk all day, and then *bam*, an ad about triple the volume of my music in the most obnoxious Monster truck promo guy voice goes TROJAN CONDOMS, FIRE AND ICE, TROJAN TROJAN TROJAN - annoying as hell.

I highly doubt that overly loud ads help advertisers in any way - if anything, I would bet that there is a negative correlation between loud ads and a user's reception to them.

Wait a second. Did you just imply that the government doesn't regulate ads or content online? Am I understanding you correctly?

Yes I'm saying that the government certainly does not or even attempt to regulate online content anything like they regulate broadcast television.

Can't say I have any direct experience buying TV ads but it must be working otherwise they wouldn't do it.

This is merely an extension of the so called "loudness war" which has been raging ever since a particular piece of equipment was to be found in recording studios (Waves L2).

Notice how over the last ten years music itself has become progressively louder?

This should be regulated as well.

hahahaha! But have you tried L3?

it's an entirely self-serving issue from the advertisement companies.

Ideally the TV companies would restrict advertisers from boosting volume, but they aren't.

They work together. They purposely set the volume of the ads louder (actually the programs volume lower), that's the deal. To keep their advertisers happy, make more sales, order more ads. 30 seconds isn't a long time to grab ppl's attention, every bit helps, haha.

I hate it too tho'

You can run your TV through your hi-fi system and put a compressor on it, so all volume is equal, if you really wanted to.

Why are you guys wasting time watching T.V? There's nothing on but complete and utter shit. I hope advertisers increase the volume just to fuck with the feeble minded people watching that shitbox even more.

Bro that better go with porn too. I hate it when you're like in the fucking mood and you're waiting for your video to start and you're not paying attention then that fucking webcam popup fucking comes out of nowhere and the girl like screams something scared the shit out of you and gives you blueballs then you can't wank FML FML FML

I read somewhere that most TV networks already have regulations. but a lot of the advertisers get around that by adjusting pitches and such that make it sound much louder than it really it. I could be wrong

^This... I wasn't even aware anyone on this forum would watch TV... I was sitting here in utter amazement... Expecting a punchline or something... You guys really watch TV? With commercials in it?

I could understand a movie or something... Or even a DVD series of your favorite show... But you put up with commercials? Really?

Walking Walking Dead on my bigscreen relaxing on my couch is waaay better than hunching over my 19" computer monitor on an uncomfortable chair.
