TV Ads treasure chest - let's do this

Gatorade turned a bullshit flavored sugar-carb water into fuel for athletes in the eyes of the world by using celebrity endorsements. Gatorade has nothing to do with high level athleticism

So reppy!

I'm still going to do a summary/cliffs version of it for the tl;dr crowd.

Also, it should be noted that if you DL the .pdf, you miss out on the old-book smell, and the incredible early sixties cover art. :updown:

Good stuff guys!

Here's a new set of ads

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETv1i1YA8-0]Introducing the Nest Learning Thermostat - YouTube[/ame]

I like Nest because it's such an "unlikely" niche for a startup to try to break through in. Thermostats aren't very interesting after all. That changed with nest.
Apparently they're shipping around 50k units per month and have recently gotten a $80 mil investment.

And one of the best presentations of a new product I've ever seen:

Combobreaker...

Here's an ad that ran in CT in 1994, for Bob's Discount Furniture.

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT3lLjT_bFs=embed[/ame]

All of his ads are essentially the same, with a very direct approach emphasizing benefits, and features etc.

Before anyone jumps in to say this ad sucks, I'd like to point a out a few things about Bob's.

They've been in business since 1991, currently have 43 stores with 2500 employees, and had gross revenue of $330 million in 2006.

The only kind of advertisements I've ever seen from this company have been done in this style. As hokey as it seems, and as savvy as consumers are supposed to be, something about this advertising seems to work.

As for Bob? I don't know him, but I've driven by his 8000 sq ft. summer house a few times, and although I couldn't see over the hedges, I'm guessing he's having a pretty good time in there.

For some reason it reminds me of

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJEKqI1e714]Shaman WoW!!! - YouTube[/ame]

Though it's not nearly as obnoxious... if you look at likes to dislikes ratio it raises another interesting point - how come that stuff that usually doesn't appeal to people sells so well.

I remember showing my copy to my family and the first thing they said "Who the hell is gonna buy that? The long sales copy is boring and no one is going to read it". It's similar with these direct response oriented ads. People feel aversion to them and yet they convert so damn well.

More low-budget effectiveness here:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg6iFTfqKo0=embed[/ame]

Eddie Antar built Crazy Eddie up from 1 location in 1971 to over 40 stores by the mid 1980's with gross revenue over 300 million.

He used Jerry Carroll, a former New York radio DJ in over 7000 unique radio and TV spots during the 80's.

Eventually, the company went public, and the fact that Eddie Antar was committing wholesale fraud came to light, you can read about that anywhere.

The point is, I remember shopping at these stores when I was a kid, and they were always packed.

These stupid commercials brought people in to buy, over and over and over.

Their commercials don't sell a drink - they make their viewers happy.

Yup. I love their commercials. Here's a few more feel good spots that come to mind, a couple from Coca Cola and some others...

Volkswagen is also a master of feel good ads...

I'm a BOOK and HANDS ON type person as well. But if something is out of print or hard to find and I want/need the info NOW.......I'll settle for a PDF to get the info and then take my time in finding a GOOD Hard Copy down the road.

My Finacee' always CRINGES when I tell her I got a PDF, EPUB, or any other type of Electronic format of something she's been looking for. She's a Writer and still prefers a N0. 2 pencil. She likes the SMELL and feel of it. Same with her books.

I too search out Hard Cover copies of books I deem to be important.

Again, thanks for sharing that title and I'll be looking forward to your Summary/Cliffs on it.

lmfao i love this one
