Here's an ad that ran in CT in 1994, for Bob's Discount Furniture.

All of his ads are essentially the same, with a very direct approach emphasizing benefits, and features etc.
Before anyone jumps in to say this ad sucks, I'd like to point a out a few things about Bob's.
They've been in business since 1991, currently have 43 stores with 2500 employees, and had gross revenue of $330 million in 2006.
The only kind of advertisements I've ever seen from this company have been done in this style. As hokey as it seems, and as savvy as consumers are supposed to be, something about this advertising seems to work.
As for Bob? I don't know him, but I've driven by his 8000 sq ft. summer house a few times, and although I couldn't see over the hedges, I'm guessing he's having a pretty good time in there.
