U.S. Debt Ceiling Unconstitutional?

I know it's bad form to bump, and I rarely do it. But this is worth revisiting.

You've probably noticed that the debt ceiling continues to lead the news. It will do so until the deadline. Today on CNN, POTUS comments on whether old folks will get their social security checks:

"There may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said, according to excerpts of a CBS News interview scheduled to air Tuesday night.

"We can't guarantee -- if there were a default -- any specific bill would be paid," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters Tuesday afternoon.
Check that out. The administration is trying to scare the old folks into calling their Republican reps, and pressuring them to give in on the debt talks. Shameful.

The rhetoric is rich on both sides. They're talking a lot without saying much of anything. Examples:

It's time to "pull off the Band-Aid" and "eat our peas," Obama told reporters. 'Let's step up. Let's do it.'
lol I have no idea what that means.

'It takes two to tango, and they're not there yet," Boehner said in reference to the administration.'
Lovely. Another critical thinker.

Three weeks to go until the deadline. I'm sure they'll deal, even though they've drawn lines in the sand. And to be sure, whatever they come up with, it won't be good.

so here should be the question for Obummer:

How come there is room in the budget for Acorn, union buddies, and tax subsidies for your buddies at GE?!?!?

Check out this speech by AlGore. At :40 seconds....PUUUURFECT COMMERCIAL TO RUN AGAINST THIS SHITSTORM OBAMA.

How come there is room in the budget for Acorn,

Does it still exist? It used to receive around $3 million a year.

The 2010 budget was about $3.5 TRILLION.

$1 million :

MSTeacher-- You know not of what you speak. Default = IMF and the IMF up in your shit is worse than pretty much anything.

The United States pretty much owns the IMF we have like 3x the votes as the next country, and the top four are our allies. If the IMF came barking up our tree we could just tell them to get the fuck out of the US and while we are at it say the same to the UN...

So no that is not the worst thing that could happen.

Moxie are you saying that 3 million is insignificant???

he doesn't get my point anyway. i was talking about a campaign strategy that obama's opponents should use against him. you could do it with anything. no money for seniors, but plenty for x,y,z. Insert: michelles endless world vacations for example. it might only be 3 or 5 or 10 million. When you are talking about electoral politics and campaign strategy you are pulling heart strings and speaking in sound bites.

It is mathematically insignificant in comparison to a $3.5 trillion budget or a $14 trillion debt.

Most of your examples sound like a "preaching to choir" type of strategy, not one to target at undecided, middle of the road voters. Most people have never heard of Acorn. The people that were upset with them were mostly the type that would never vote for Obama to begin with.

If you ran ads during The View criticizing Michelle for travelling, their typical viewer would be like "Why are these jerks being so mean picking on her? She deserves to be able to travel around, just like Prince William and his wife have been."

its only 3 mil

turns into

otherwise known as the liberal snowball effect

Acorn had been getting federal funds since like 1990. Government programs tend to expand just as much when republicans are in control.

I refer you back to my diagram for that one.... you know the liberal snowball effect

Acorn had been getting federal funds since like 1990. Government programs tend to expand just as much when republicans are in control.

yeah they are D-bag's too doesn't mean that my diagram isn't accurate look at it again... maybe you will understand why 3 million is a big deal

I think the national debt is about as big as a snowball can get I can't think of anything bigger (the problem that is... we all know the debt can/will get bigger)

you make good points, but i think it still works for a million things. it is going to be the whole argument for anyone that paid into the system and is getting fucked...no matter which party is in power....you can't pay me what you owe me but you can pay for x, y, z??? it doesn't have to be acorn. acorn will not even be brought up i doubt.

i would agree that most of what they bicker about is insignificant. i am 110% behind what ron paul is saying.

but i also agree with jonah. just because they waste trillions doesn't mean that the millions don't matter. its that very attitude that has created a system where every pet project is piled on until a trillion dollar budget seems like no big deal. we only just started talking in trillions. and already it seems like millions is a small amount. i think we all get into that psychology.

^ i just felt like being a dick about the way I was saying it and for the record Ron Paul in no way is advocating a 3 million dollar is chump change attitude...he is about LESS government NOT more and you only get less when the government spends less.

didn't bother watching the Ron Paul Video but my guess is what he was saying was cutting 3 million is useless you need to cut biliions... including ACORN

I think overall governments and people in general are missing the bigger picture.

As technology progresses, more and more things get automated and that removes a lot of grunt workers.

When these people cannot find jobs because they’re skilset is no longer required, they turn to “Social Programs.”

Eventually we will reach a place where manufacturing/retail jobs are out. The biggest jobs out there will be sales / entertainment.

I really see the Medical bubble bursting in the next 5 yrs.
With the new internet based “family doctor” devices coming out and attaching to wi-fi. Your going to have doctors globally competing for local patients.

This will drive consumer costs way down might even make them affordable (oh my)!

This could cause an increase in preventive cases (Think Medical Diagnostic Subscriptions $50/mo).

That kind of service would cause hospital visits to go down.

So it will really be interesting to see what the Global GDP product breakdown of the industrialized countries in 2025 will really be.

Because you're too fucking dumb to make your own way, why not punish people who are amirite? I love the jealousy and hate people have for the rich.

You really think the shit government deserves 70% of ANYONES income? What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you fucking retarded? A mother fucker works 3/4 of the year for free? To pay the U.S. government? Why not just make it 100% and enslave the fucking people, it would be easier. Jesus fucking christ, go kill yourself.
