UK’s Cameron rejects early EU in/out referendum after vote loss

Fatbat, I think part of the problem is that the press generalizes so much and try as we might, it's hard not to be influenced by them and to start to generalize ourselves too.

I thought some of the press propaganda about Ed Miliband's Jewish roots was interesting - especially the pictures of him eating a bacon butty.

I couldn't work out who they were trying to influence. Was it the UKIPers who had said that Miliband should "go back to Poland"? Was it muslims whom they were hoping to prize away from labour by emphasizing Miliband's jewish roots, and the fact that he does't practice? The results of the elections show that it didn't put off the latter.

(For WF members who don't know: Miliband is the son of post-war immigrants to Britain. His maternal grandfather owned a factory in Poland employing 70 people, but this was seized by the Nazis who then put him into Auschwitz and gassed him. His mother survived because she was hidden by nuns, and as soon as the war ended made her way to Britain. His father escaped to Britain at the start of teh war, walking 150 miles to get to a port, and he then fought in the British Navy. If he becomes Prime Minister, he'll be the second one of Jewish descent, the first being Benjamin Disraeli - and if he makes it, he'll be the first Jew worldwide propelled to power partly by muslim votes).
