All dead people will turn into zombies regardless of how they die, and a zombie bite merely leads death, not infection. Everyone is basically infected with the virus already, so anyone who dies => zombie. [source : the graphic novel]
Said fuck it and started reading the comics.
Not so sure the TV version will turn out the same way as the comic. When I think about movies like I am Legend, 28 Days later, and Resident Evil 6 (video game) where someones blood is the cure and it's k.
The CDC guy could have told them all they are fucked but also told Rick his blood and or his family are immune/the cure but since the place was set to blow up there was no time to do anything with it.
By like the 4th or so comic before they even leave the first camp in Atlanta Shane is already dead, Lori knows she is pregnant without taking a test or the CDC guy possibly telling Rick she's pregnant, it's snowing everywhere...
That's just the way it is folks in the books they lose and in the movies/shows they win.
In Breaking Bad the novel Walter dies.
