What happens when...

networks drop pixels to fuck you out of commissions plain and simple,

Their tracking goes down but yet conversions are still happening on the back end.

Sorry our tracking went down but yet all your links worked and were redirected to the offer properly. Our pixel didn't fire golly gee.
Everything worked except for the part where you get paid.

I'm sorry the advertiser is not working with us so we can't credit you.

This particular offer went down on all networks. From what I hear, the advertiser was paying too much per lead so the offer is coming back soon at a reduced payout. Go figure...

This network is one of the biggest networks in the space so I really doubt they dropped the pixel to screw people out of commision.

You're killing an offer and everything's good and suddenly the network's pixel stops firing and you realize this after 3 hours. So for 3 hours, thousands of clicks are sent to the offer, but no conversions are recorded.

Later the network tells me "oh our pixel fell off..."

What the fuck am I supposed to do? The advertiser basically gets thousands of leads for free during those 3 hours? :angryfire:

Shit, I'm fed up of networks these days...they only care when they are making money...when it comes to crediting their affiliates and settling business, they frown.

Funny thing is - it is one of the reputable networks atleast in my books and it's unfortunate I have to deal with all this.

If the affiliate network's pixel fell off, 99.9% of the time the advertiser is still showing leads on their end. The network should get with the advertiser to see how many leads tracked on the advertiser's reporting system during those 3 hours, and credit you for every single lead.

If not, as others have mentioned - find a new network.

Pixel falloff is something that typically can't be avoided with cookie-based tracking systems (ie, image and iframe pixels). Wherever possible, we try to use server to server (or postback) pixels, as there is typically zero falloff for this, since it's a direct ping to a database. When we CAN'T place a server to server pixel, we log into the advertiser's reporting system and actually *ADD* leads to our publishers so that there is zero pixel fall off. We pay our affiliates for each and every lead they generate.

Yes I have very much considered that. I guess I deal with things in a very pussy way often enough. Luckily it hasn't happened again for more money.

I used to take a much more hard ass attitude and not trust anyone or take any shit ever. It lead to people just thinking of me as a dick and seriously hampering my ability to network. I'll let you screw me over for some money and still smile right back if you introduce me to something that makes me x100 times more.

A balance is key of course and I'm always learning.

Mike, I think you have the right idea here but you don't necessarily need to grin and bear it. You have every right to insist upon getting credited for your leads and I think you are most likely to get what you want by being professional and speaking softly (being polite yet direct) while carrying a large stick (be clear that you will pull your traffic and feel compelled to warm your colleagues about what happened).
If an advertiser doesn't want to pay for legitimate leads they have gotten then they are dirtbags and not worth doing business with. If a network you trust won't compensate you for the leads you sent because they claim that the advertiser wont pay for them...well, I think that says a bit about the network and how valuable they think you are as an affiliate as well as something about the advertiser.
As a legitimate advertiser it pays to be long term greedy (and I don't mean GS's current interpretation of that phrase). I have dealt with plenty of tracking nightmares and we always pay our partners because:
1) It's the right thing to do....well, maybe this is actually #2 but whatever.
2) The profit from even a thousand "free" leads is nothing compared to what you lose from the damage to your reputation and your bottom line. When you sully your reputation you close doors that otherwise might have been open. People talk and word gets out pretty quickly if you're a shady bastard.

I'm sure whoever it is will clean things up if they want to stick around. Sort it out with them I think you'll find any business that wants to stay in business reasonable.

You have given out too much reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.
