i bought one recently. you're better off staying away from pillow tops imo. the tops wears out far before the bed does. sleep patterns create little peaks and valleys on these beds over time.

get a nice firm mattress with a high coil count then add a separate pillow top if you want the extra comfort.

this thread is way old, but i went through a shitload of research when i bought a mattress recently so i thought i'd share :) here's the lowdown:

most name brand mattresses are overpriced crap. they use lots of polyeurothane (PU) foam that breaks down. springs wear out. memory foam breaks down. air mattresses leak. basically most mattresses you buy will go bad pretty fast, pillow tops VERY fast. the only good alternative is 100% latex mattresses (the big names sell latex mattresses, but they usually put PU foam on top, which defeats the purpose. you want 100% latex). they're resilient as hell, don't break down, and are comfortable as hell. some companies to check out:

flobeds.com
sleepez.com

you can google for more.

g'luck

Redemption motherfuckers!

Yeah i'll admit I have no idea how latex works into a bed material so i had to rip on ya for it but I'm certain its something i don't want. haha

Seconded that pillow tops suck - we are on our 2nd one in 3 years, first replaced from the factory, gonna have to fight them on this one. Simmons or Spring Air Four Seasons - we are not happy with it at all, in fact, I'm laying on it right now horizontally because we can't stand the fucking holes in it anymore . .

Not good.

Does anyone who replied in this thread actually own the bedding from the W store? I had been thinking about buying it for a while now, I have it pulled up ready to check out, and with a 40% discount code I found, its still $600ish. Curious if anyone who actually owns it can say if its worth it.

I own the bedding from the St Regis which is part of starwood which owns the W, its worth it best $$ i ever spent, im about to buy a second set

Beautyrest black, half-pillow top.

I used to wake up feeling hung over every day. Two weeks ago I sprung the $2k for this beast and I literally feel 10 years younger.

Also, uber high thread count sheets ftw.

Oh, and just in case anybody gives a shit, also buy good SHOES. $29 Walmart shit makes you feel like you've been in a UFC fight by the end of the day. Custom fitted adds 2 hours of productive time to my day just because I don't feel completely run down by 5 oclock any more.
