Give them a little time and then let them know "this will cost you more than you save by not paying me" and then make it so. This is the best and most enjoyable way to ensure you get paid.

There are a handful of people - I have only run into 3 (adultdev.net, some canadian retard that sells baby changing stations and network liquidation global in florida) idiots that hire people and just don't pay them or just dont prioritize it.

These idiots can only abuse idiots, I don't turn the other cheek. Record your time and charge it to them as interest. How to twist their arms?

1) Load up their phone lines

2) Load up their emails

3) Spread propaganda -- make sure the asshole you're targeting knows that you cannot stop once you've started. If they continue to fuck you - fuck them. If you try to steal 1$ or more from me, you are a child molesting KKK member as far as im concerned, or as far as your entire city is concerned

4) Forums, linkspam, theres a billion ways.

Some people think this is overkill, think its a waste of time or disagree on some moral level. Some people live their lives as a victim and don't understand the importance of crushing bastards, I've been paid every single time and I always will be paid, otherwise Ill run a deadbeat irreversibly into the ground and ill automate it. Fuck them, fuck their business, fuck everything about them.

PS: im a little pissed that I have to be doing this, because the only reason I have to bring justice to these assholes is because others never do.
 


But then you have to ask yourself, by doing all of this other work with no promise of any outcome other than investing a lot more of your own time into someone that you probably don't want as a client anyways...Versus moving on and closing a sale on a client who does want to pay and is a much more desirable client. To me, I'd rather just do the latter. But I know not being payed sucks, could turn personal, so the things you listed in that case would definitely be a major blow to any non paying client.

You're an idiot. In the time it takes to do all of that you could have sent 100 LinkedIn InMails and have five figures of new business.

It's not just "overkill, think its a waste of time or disagree on some moral level" - it's flat out ridiculous. You need to get out of the basement dwelling freelancer's mindset and into that of a business owner. X% of your annual business is 'shrinkage'. Zero fucks given, move along.

I've had members of this forum chargeback hundreds of dollars of content on PayPal because they decided they didn't want to pay for it, and the same for guest blog post clients who misused them, suffered ranking drops and blamed my company who was nothing more than a vendor. You don't see me wasting my time on them... for each client who pulls this shit you go close another hundred and laugh off the sad state of affairs their lives must be.

An underappreciated benefit of wasting time in STS is that it helps you build a list of "people to never work with".

Just an FYI to anyone thinking about this. I had some contractor that did some super crappy work I told him I wasn't going to pay for.

They proceeded to do exactly what you describe there. I guess they thought they were clever and if they stayed "anonymous" they could get away with it.

Problem for them is warrants can be issued on probable cause. When the FBI raided their house turns out they hadn't done enough on their computers to maintain that level of anonymity. They even found some other stuff that wasn't even suspected!

It's 2+ years later and the criminal case is still going on. That stuff takes forever. Don't think it's going to great for them though. I rather wish it would all get dropped so they could go make some money for me to take.

The civil case is all wrapped up though. I've got a low 5 figure judgement that cannot be removed by bankruptcy. I can keep it on them forever until it's paid at 10% interest.

Moral of the story is pretty simple. Just because you feel someone owes you money you might not want to start doing illegal shit. Because the law damn well doesn't see it as an excuse. Trying to ruin someones life by knowingly lying about them online is a big civil penalty in the US and depending on what you say it's criminal as well - this why the FBI was happy to help out. They don't like people making false terrorist claims after all.

I've got rental properties and when people don't pay rent I'd love to just go over there and throw their stuff out on the street. But there are these silly things called "laws" that don't just stop applying the moment you feel someone owes you money.

Sometimes, yeah.

As anyone who as lived a life in this world, I've had people fuck me in various ways.

For one thing, you're completely right. Why waste my time? What if I spend a small amount of my time helping others avoid a scam? To me, that sounds legit.

I'll give two examples.

Example 1... I lived in a college town where renters were fucked regularly. I told someone that fucked me that "if they couldn't treat me in an ethical manner, that I'd tell people about it."

Last time I looked, which was 5 years ago, I'd told more than 18k people about it that were looking for housing in that area.

Example 2... I took a classic jag into the local jag dealership. I'd paid them to service that car previously. I paid them 5-600 to take the engine apart and look. They quoted me a price to fix it. I declined, and went to pick it up. Some of you guys might know this... but generally, when you pick a jag up, it's supposed to be cleaned from top to bottom. In my case, my jag (with custom paint) was sitting under a tree, covered in bird shit. I paid them to take the engine apart and look at it. I'm a paying customer. Is it good enough for me to leave a bad yelp review? lol. No. Fuck them. They deserve for me to outrank them for every keyword they care about, complete with pictures of how they handed my classic jag back to me.

After the way they handled my car, it's worth my time to warn others.

Could they pay me to take it down? Probably. Is that my goal? Nah. I told them already.

Sorry, but Brian Costello has 1 up on you. He doesn't just go around crushing clients, but attorneys, judges, multi-billion dollar corporations, and whoever else gets in his path.
