Where's Guerilla?

But it's a downward spiral.

Ebb and flow, possibly.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I go through times where I work 18 hour days for months at a time, and also go through times where I work 10 hours per week - for months at a time. Right now, I'm on month 3 of 18 hour days.

I go through times where I do a lot of useful forum posting, or useless forum posting... different forums, etc. I mean, work related, non-work related, etc. There are so many variables.

I'll say Guerilla pointed out some really useful things to me in the last few months, through no fault of my own.

It's a natural process. Here's my take:

I used to visit WF for the info (circa 2007). When the signal-to-noise ratio started to plummet, I visited to connect with guys like guerilla, erect, scottspfd82, kingofsp, UG, and a few others. Eventually, I'll connect with them off-forum, and then there'll be few reasons for me to visit. (I used to come for the latest-breaking news, but I haven't given a shit about the news for awhile.)

There's too much drama around here for my taste. Occasional drama is good for a chuckle, but if you were around for the Chris Lingle and Moe Bedard debacles, everything else pales by comparison. And these days, there's so much of it that stopping by STS is like watching an episode of Big Brother.

There's no better example of the state of WF than the tags. Back when the mods controlled them, I used to look forward to reading them. They were witty. Some were hilarious. Now, the tags are just an opportunity for cowards to attack others behind a veil of anonymity.

If folks dig that type of thing, more power to them. But it's a downward spiral.

It's interesting how this generational 'get off my lawn', 'their music isn't as good as ours was' nostalgia only takes a couple years to happen on forums. The internet accelerates everything I guess.

If you don't have hatters hatting on you you're doing it wrong.

That's part of the problem

Most people go on spurts of posting during down times, followed by long periods of lurking. I've been guilty of this many times in the past couple of years. Shits gotta get done.

High end SEOs have migrated to posting the really good stuff on skype ... or not at all. CCarter is a straight up genius & has probably been the MVP (most valuable poster) of 2013 .... do you honestly think he's giving up 100% of the goodies to the plebs for public consumption? Not a chance.

A lot of guys have been convinced of google trolls that infiltrate all of the advanced IM forums (like this one). I think it's a fairly legit line of thinking since specific algorithm changes /can/ crush a specific link type.

Compile all of the above with PPCers evacuation of the forum, that talk used to dominate the conversation ~2009. I honestly can't tell you when the last time I've read an informative post here on paid advertising. Everyone apparently learned quickly from the acai fiasco. Sometimes it's good to shut your mouth when you're talking random people.

Back on topic to this thread, I can tell you all this for a fact that guerilla won't be spending countless hours on WF in 2014 and beyond. Again, understandable, the trolls came out to antagonize guerilla at every turn ... and he fed them a never ending buffet of ideas that require a lot of defending. For him, checking the industry news on WF was likely never a 5 minute thing due to so much off topic.

I'm honestly proud that I was able to be a part of his life for a short period of time. You won't meet many people of his character throughout the rest of your years. Be glad you were around for the ride.

He's too busy making five starred meals, tucked away in the northern regions of Canada, far away from the Americans.

That's got to be a fact. I can't imagine any other scenario. They have time and resources. They're probably the biggest single buyer of BSTs.

Although in the case of Carter, anticipation seems to be his gig. Just like reading google patents made sense 3-5 years ago, anticipation is the name of the game... not so much what works immediately.

Guerilla's contributions to me were much more about business sense than seo tips. With the sophisticated publicly available tools now, it's actually still easy to deconstruct what is going on with serps. The top contributors of tomorrow will be about conversion rates, marketing, business sense, etc. (Which I would not, in any way, exclude Carter from.)

Douches like Cutts still want me to convert nicely, because they want me to be able to pay them more for their visitors. The point I'm making is that forums like this will continue to be valuable, beyond algos and quick hits.

Was Guerilla and Ccarter giving you a neck massage when you wrote this in your secret bunker?

Seriously though, I remember when people freely shared information on IM forums. I don't think I would be where I am without people sharing. Unfortunately Google has gotten really good at the "scare game". Fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

I saw the same shit with Craigslist. It was an orgy of great info on the forums, especially BHW. CL started suing the fuck out of people (myself included), and everything went underground.

Is that a good thing or bad thing? Probably a whole other conversation. It's good for me, but for anyone trying to get into the game, it sucks.

I guess the point is, the barriers to entry are much greater now. Hence the reason why I come to WF to post bullshit gifs and talk about gay shit. I ultimately hope that someone will post some gold (Ccarter) and I will benefit from it, yet not have to give back at all. Pretty fucking selfish of me...I'm having a moment.

I can contact a locator agent in a region he usually frequents and let you know about his exact location.

Other than that, I guess he will come when he wants to. Probably busy with work. He has more fans than haters here anyway and I doubt he would leave us, right :( ?

^ Ya man, I miss those guys to. Sumit was one of the funniest guys.

I think the future forums will have some sort of contract that they are not an employee of the Gorg or something like that and have the option to do private knowledge drops to people who are trusted....it could make a nice filter. Maybe there could be some sort of award system for those who contribute and are allowed to see the posts in the premium members section.

WF used to have some built in non spoken rules that would either disgust the person they wanted out, or just ban them.

A couple from our buddy Sumit.
