Why did Firefox fail so badly?

I always have both open ... neither crash or are slow loading.

Firefox is failing because mozilla has no reach compared to microsoft or google. A smart play would be to sell out to facebook ... but even that's not an OS so they'd still be the 3rd wheel. But at least they'd have exposure on one of the most visited pages on the internet like mentioned above by big money.

The amount of internet users has doubled in the last 5 years; therefore there are now more Firefox users than at any point in history.

I loved FF, but it got so slow at some point it was literally unusable. I switched to Chrome and really never looked back. I'd be happy to switch back to FF if they made it back into what it was about 3 years ago.

The new Firefox 22 has been the best reviewed version in years. It won overall for the benchmark tests done by Tom's Hardware, that were linked above.

It's been over two years since Mozilla started the MemShrink project, which has led to improvements.

It's like listening to OP ask us why Linux failed so bad since everyone in his freshman Human Sexuality class uses Macbooks.

Maybe when yall are done we can discuss how slow Java is like it's 1999.

I'm pretty sure Tom's Hardware did an article about how the most recent build of FF is the fastest browser now. Chrome is just barely behind it, but it was enough to get me to start using FF again.

90% of FF's problems are from 3rd party plugins. Install a stock FF instance and it's quick with no crashes. Firebug is the biggest performance killer. I disable it now and just enable it when I've doing dev work.

Also don't forget Chrome gets to advertise itself on the most popular page in the world

I don't have Chrome installed on any of my machines but I have just about every other browser there is and I still use Firefox almost exclusively.

If you want the Chrome without the Google "stuff" then check this out - Chromium is an open source version and several folks have hacked it up pretty good :)

I've used SWIron before. Toying with the ideal of using one of the others listed soon

This.

It's beyond me how are you, proud gay webmasters, can use Chrome which reports every your breath and fart to Google.

Chromium FTW, I also use Iron since Guerilla recommended it in LFE forum. Lol, many years.

oh - anyone else notice how Firefox 22 is not compatible with Roboform?

Flawless for me.

Chrome is my primary browser these days, but I still use Firefox daily. I think it's a great browser with a lot of great plugins. They may be slipping in market share, but they're not failing.

Then again, when your biggest source of revenue decides to become your competition that can make life difficult.

I still use multiple browsers but FF is my go to everyday one..

FF for building, dev and browsing. (No 3rd party plugins) With the latest FF 22 user base is likely to grow again.

IE for testing.

Chrome for un cached, un clicked, un personalised quick view serps. (Don't like that it reports everything i do)

Also have a few Mozilla based browsers loaded, just because really.

However with this recent NSA privacy thing, I bet we'd see FF pick up market share from Chrome and IE.

This.

Several of my web dev pal friends have made the switch back to firefox in the last few weeks in light of the NSA thing.

I'm preparing to ditch chrome myself (as main browser) - it's time to take privacy concerns to the next level.

I've installed Firefox, but first impression is... it's still slow once you have lots of tabs open for a while.

I have one gripe with chrome: For the love of god, will you make it possible to have your bookmarks in a nice vertical bar like with IE and FF? Is that really too much to ask? Haven't even really seen a decent extension that can do this, and if there is one, someone please elucidate me
