Why did Firefox fail so badly?

For those that want another layer of anonymity switch from default search on google to startpage.com which will anonymize your searches before sending them to google. I also use Startpage Google Look - Themes and Skins for Startpage - userstyles.org to make it look like google.

To add it in Chrome as default search engine go Settings-> Manage search engines and add startpage.com with this URL:
Code:
https://startpage.com/do/search?query=%s&cat=web&pl=chrome&language=english

I have one gripe with chrome: For the love of god, will you make it possible to have your bookmarks in a nice vertical bar like with IE and FF? Is that really too much to ask? Haven't even really seen a decent extension that can do this, and if there is one, someone please elucidate me

There's an extension for that. but i admit, it would be nice to have the feature built in.

Firefox failed when they attempted to copy Chrome with their ridiculous update schedule of every 6 weeks without re-building it from the ground up. Mimic a smaller weaker competitor makes them look weaker in my mind. Chromes pretty buggy, but I don't know, there was a whole time period where Firefox's updates where killing the experience. That's when I gave up. I want to go back, but there is something still irking me about them.

FUCKING THIS! I stopped using it when I went from version 3.0 To like version 12 in a few weeks. Also the flash would crash All the time. and it used tons of memory

According to the visitor stats on my make monies sites, Firefox has not failed at all. Mozzilla FTW for maintaining a user base with just the right amount of dumb.

I had to stop using chrome because it doesn't have side tabs and tab grouping. Side tabs make so much more sense. If it gets something like tree style tabs then I'll consider. As of now I have 40 tabs open and it takes up less space than Chrome and Opera. And that's just one tab group.

Major version numbers arent important though, are they. It's just a number, if it changes, you'd typically only know if you go and check. That's all you can make of it.

Prior to v4 updates were slow and infrequent, having updated in the BG is the best way, not only does it mean security issues get patched, but it also means new features are brought in and developers can pretty much just develop for the current release without worrying too much about a fragmented version userbase (like IE).

This.

It's beyond me how are you, proud gay webmasters, can use Chrome which reports every your breath and fart to Google.

Chromium FTW, I also use Iron since Guerilla recommended it in LFE forum. Lol, many years.

Flawless for me.

You do realize that Google tracking pixels are like everywhere right? So unless you're actively blocking, you'll still get tracked.

I was huge FF supporter, but recent releases got sooo fucking slow. When I finally figured out it wasn't just me, I switched the same day. Really don't know what went wrong in the company. My bet would be on talent deficiency/leak.

What browser is that?

Switched back to firefox last week on the back of Firefox Vs. Chrome: Mozilla Takes Top Honors In Latest Web Browser Grand Prix and the NSA/PRISM thing even though it's probably a futile gesture.

I have real nostalgia for Firefox as I used to use firefox portable off a memory stick at school to bypass the IE blocks and play pointless flash games, plus the branding for me is much better. Chrome is like a soulless web rendering machine ala Ivan Drago. Firefox is the lovable Rocky, bit stupid sometimes but it's heart is in the right place.

FireFox to WaterFox? Really? C'mon....could've been better named. Lulz

I am so over the Browser shit!!

I finally decided to just use WaterFox for most of my web stuff.

This is about how many tabs I keep open:

WaterFox taps into the same databases and plugins that you use in 32 bit Firefox, so as long as any plugins you have are compatible with WaterFox they will automatically load and the Bookmarks and Session Manager sessions are shared/synched as well.

Author Howard Hughes gave Firefox a negative review, "Watch the trailer, read the book, play the game — just avoid the film, it's another Eiger Sanction. Less a 'Firefox', it's more of a damp squib, or at best a smoldering turkey.

Vincent Canby's review in The New York Times made a similar assessment, zeroing in on Eastwood's lack of control over the plot line. "Firefox is only slightly more suspenseful than it is plausible. It's a James Bond movie without girls, a Superman movie without a sense of humor."[

I actually made the switch back TO Firefox from Chrome recently, and so far I don't think I will look back at Chrome.

I had been a huge Chrome fanboy for many many years after Firefox originally had started giving me huge performance issues, crashes, etc.

But...in the past 6-8 months, my Chrome had become EXTREEEEMLY SLOW. To the point where it took sometimes up to 45 seconds to load any new page. Swithcing between Chrome tabs would sometimes take 30 seconds. Scrolling down a page was choppy and jerky as hell. And no, I didn't have it bloated with addons/plugins either. This was on my brand new 32 GB Ram, 8-core system...

So I said fuck it...I'm gonna see how the latest Firefox performs. And low and behold - it is LIGHTNING fast on my current setup. I can easily have 40-50 tabs open and it doesn't even flinch. Welcome home, Firefox!
