Why The U.S. Is Doomed...

I thought this was an interesting tidbid from the first article you linked:

"Anti-market bias, he [Joseph Schumpeter] implied, is not a temporary, culturally specific aberration. It is a deeply rooted pattern of human thinking that has frustrated economists for generations."

Policy being dictated by appealing to the demands of a mob comprised of stupid, entitled, easily placated plebs isn't exactly a new problem or a U.S. specific problem, no? It's certainly not specific to democracy.

if i were president i would shut down all television broadcasting. people lose their jobs, too bad.

Um, ...I think you are assuming the POTUS has a tad bit more power than he really does...

I wholeheartedly agree with the comment above that people accepting welfare should not be allowed to vote.

In fact, I'm really surprised it hasn't been made into a bill by republicans and put up for a vote every week or so in congress.

Besides the obvious fact that there are lots of people who would vote it down for reasons of greed, what is really stopping this bill from being introduced? Is it really unconstitutional?

It would be even more awesome to have a system where a vote isn't just a vote, but is a multiple of your tax bill over the past x years. So the more money you pay to the federal government the more powerful your vote is.

But aside from the fact that it would be unconstitutional, it wouldn't yield the results conservatives would expect.

The end result would be the same as what you are seeing now: lots of handouts to the poor + gigantic government spending . It would just be done differently. There are plenty of rich and powerful people who make their money through government programs. So all those programs would remain.

After all, the poor and the lazy wouldn't be able to organize all those handouts by themselves, since they are poor and lazy. It's the rich, smart, ambitious "entrepreneurs" who make it all happen.

Hating the poor for the handouts to the poor is like hating the foreign sheiks for the price of oil. It's the rich old (not-so)-middle-men of mostly western descent who make it all happen for their own benefit. The rest are just pawns.

In conclusion: disregard (everything), acquire currency.

Sometimes I feel people worry too much about world issues. It's probably more effective and tranquil to worry about yourself and your immediate life only. When did WF become drudge report?

Exsqueeze me? You're saying the ambitious entrepreneurs are going to make handouts to the poor happen?

I don't get your point at all... It's too illogical to be understood.

What are you saying would make welfare flow to the lazy after they lose their voting rights?

PS: Entrepreneurs don't make anything but personal cashflow happen. Yes even Zuckerburg, for now. It's the megacorps that make REAL shit happen.

The amount of money one controls is in direct proportion to the amount of control one has over the US government... And the 39 largest economies of this planet are all corporations like GE or BP.

Exsqueeze me? You're saying the ambitious entrepreneurs are going to make handouts to the poor happen?

Not entrepreneurs but "entrepreneurs". The kind of "entrepreneurs" that figure out one can make 10 million by administering a process of giving away 10 billion of other people's money.

Never mind dude. I don't feel like dumbing things down today.

Ah, crooks in public offices. I get it now.

I used to think that corrupted politics was something very different than I see it today. Instead of some congressman swindling cash or favors out of some project back in his district in exchange for a vote in Washington, now I'm much more afraid of the bigger kind of corruption... Him being forced to do what his sponsoring corporation (through lobbyists) tells him to do.

It is corrupt to the core, but nothing can change when money and politics are so closely linked.

Wow, watching TV for more than 30 minutes is enough to drive me insane with boredom. Let alone several hours per day.

Unless it's Dexter or South Park...

yea, i was being facetious...

anyways, all this megacorp fascism and govt spending will end one day. just a waiting game in my opinion. once the baby boomers start dying, the game changes... and will probably change before then.

I'm curious why you think things will change?

well first, why wouldn't they? change is the only constant in this world...

but really i think the baby boomer generation is what's keeping things from changing right now. they are the figureheads (CEOs, politicians, etc) behind this current corporatist system of ours. also once the boomers start to withdraw their 401Ks, the system will begin to deflate. the generation coming up behind them isn't productive enough to fill the (credit) void they're leaving behind. due to the consolidation, it won't be possible to maintain our current state. corporations just won't have the leverage they do now.

If you do not pay any income taxes you should not be permitted to vote. Those on government handouts should not be able to vote. They will only perpetuate the system. Not support for the government, not vote.
if you believe you should have to pay income tax you shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Look at it from the other side, those kids that sit at home all day watching television wont be out fighting which means the government should obviously start a One TV per child program completely funded by the taxpayers.

It would be interesting to see comparative stats for nations like China or Russia.
As always, I blame the parents.
I assume it's just the same in the US as it is in the UK, with parents leaving their responsibilities to the state while they demand more financial support and more time to themselves.

My parents went to social events maybe three times a year. These days parents seem to think they have THE RIGHT to dump their kids every weekend. If anything, the problem is primarily stupid people producing stupid kids and then being allowed to sit on their ass while they scream at everyone else to raise them on their behalf.

I dun watch tv on tv anymore, though I do watch about 30 minutes of anime a week and probably about 2-3 hours worth of videos a week.

I saw 3 movies last year... been wanting to see scott pilgrim for months and still haven't gotten around to it.
