World Cup

He is faking, we all know soccer is a pussy game.

It's a broken nose - get over yourself.

If you haven't broken your nose at least a few times by 25 you aren't living life properly (or you're not of Eastern European descent).

I'm looking forward to seeing Johanns get more time as a likely starter now that Altidore is out. He seemed to be creating more on his own than the rest of the team combined during the match against Ghana - does a great job of keeping the ball in motion and putting other players into space.

Well, i just liked to tease the WC hater pointing to "real" sports...

But i have to correct your last sentence.

If you haven't broken some nose at least a few times by 25 you aren't living life properly if you're of Eastern European descent.

At half time, Chile's tactics is spot on. Theres no space given to the spanish forwards.

I haven't been studying the tactics or watching that intently, but if they are playing 3-4-3 that's pretty bold.

Spain Kill in the middle but don't necessarily have the pace to counter, unlike Chile of course.

Casillas has had another howler which is always funny to see.

Spain needs a nose kick and some of this to wake up and feel it.

Chile keeps gathering a 5 man defense line whenever Spain is near their box choking their movement. I suppose others teams will now follow suit against Spain (They won't get into the 2nd round but I'm talking about future games), they really need to change the way they play, albeit its worked for them many years successfully.

Hopefully Tiki taka died today cause its more boring that jose mourinho's blue bus. However I suspect that Spanish players were just too old and not athletic enough for the modern game and thats why they are looking so poor and average now. Biology and aging always wins!

Phfff, that was disappointing to say the least. It's eerily quiet here tonight :eek7: Well, I heard there were some fireworks in Gibraltar.

England will go out tomorrow and there will be no one left to root for.

I actually feel England played better than their usual self on the first game. At least they are not giving the ball away with their typical long balls and are finally trying to run at defenders. Rooney is crap though even taking account he is playing out of his position, should get rid of him. He's been consistently poor on the world stage.

Yes I think if he doesn't perform tonight then he'll get the chop. I'm a UTD fan but no way is he worth £300k a week FFS! I'm in the wrong business...

I love the World Cup

The World Cup, I think, is by far the best sport in the world. If played right, it's a beautiful game to watch and not to mention the females on the side lines. But if played like their diving into the city pool then it brings much disrespect to those who love the game, like my self. U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! :smokin::smokin::smokin:

I'm cautiously optimistic for tonight but didn't expect a win against Italy.

Rooney is too inconsistent to be a top, top player. The fact you never know which Rooney will turn up is what makes selection so difficult.

If we play him in the "hole" he might have a shit game, and have kept Sterling out. If we don't, we might wonder what could have been.

I'm confused by whether or not Uruguay have much about them; they won the Copa America recently but got turned over by Costa Rica. Suarez is coming back from a long lay off and Cavani whilst a decent striker, seems to suffer from the Rooney problem.

Their captain is also out and their right back.

But they do have a lot of European based players and when you look at other South American teams such as Chile/Columbia, it's very hard to predict how well they'll fare.

Anyway, going to be a quality game - fuck the casual gambling industry, fuck going to central London to watch it, fuck blind patriotism but COME ON INGERLAND, LET'S HAVE A BANG ON THAT!!!!!

P.S

Most likeable England squad in a while?

Colombia still takes football very seriously: I just head in the news that there were about 3,000 fights and 10 dead in Colombia after their last game. Wonder what the damage will be today as they face Ivory Coast. Looking forward to seeing a Dider Drogba in good form though.

Gotta love the island apes ;) Seriously though, they make up some pretty entertaining songs in general

Wouldn't be an England football supporter if I didn't throw some unnecessary references to the War/Germany, even though we're not playing you...

First thought for most England fans when the groups are announced. So when can we meet Ze Germans?

Columbia are a tasty little team even without Falcao. I watch a lot of Serie A and know what some of the players can do. Ivory Coast seem the most capable of African teams.

Zuniga Vs Gervinho?

The Barmy Army will be in attendance banging their drums, singing songs, like In-ge-land, In-ge-land, In-ge-land, or, boom-boom-boomboomboom-boomboomboomboom-ENGLAND!... (keep it simple, don't give them too many words to remember).

Was at the England v Paraguay game at World Cup in Frankfurt 2006. It was quite the experience. I designed the livery for a FlyBe BAe 146-300 (which now has toy scale models and is in MS flight sim, because plane people are crazy like that), and we took 80 some odd punters and the office football team to the game, full VIP, roast dinner, gift bags, the works. Then I got to sit behind this guy all game...

I'll never forget it. I think I memorized his kid's names.
