Worst economic collapse ever

"There will be a revolution in this country," he said. "Its not going to come yet, but its going to come down the line and were going to see a third party and this was the catalyst for it: the takeover of Washington, D. C., in broad daylight by Wall Street in this bloodless coup. And it will happen as conditions continue to worsen."

I just saw this linked from CNN about the blame game. Time is listing 25 people to blame for the current economic disaster in the United States.

Nobody escapes being blamed, from the American consumer, to Bill Clinton, banks, George Bush, etc.

What! Where is Barney Frank. At least put him on the list for being a gay Barney Fudd!

This is kind of a ridiculous comparison.

Someone needs to add 2009's bubble to this:

The other day instead of making monies I watched FreeJack a movie from 1992 that was set int he dark future of 2009. it was funny looking at what crappy sci-fi predicted for our future... (video phones everywhere)

but there was major economic collapse. I agree with Vinny though 2012 is majority overated

No one is going to starve in the USA.

In the Great Depression, food resources became scarce due to poor farming practices exposing top soil to wind. Then FDR instituted a program of paying farmers to NOT use vast tracts of land.

We'll have food. We'll have shelter -- christ, didn't we just have a housing bubble? Of course, squatters are a likely possibility, but yeah -- food and shelter are in abundance for this coming depression.

If you live in a bad neighborhood, I'd suggest moving ASAP. But otherwise, guns & ammo will be best used as assets to trade.

Predicting the future is about probabilities. Right now, it's probable that hard times are coming. Hard times can compound - unhappy nations are quick to go to war. Things could get VERY bad. However, there is a chance that things will recover if the people decide to reign in government spending. Tax revolts sounds like a positive to me!

If a tax cut increases government revenues, you haven't cut taxes enough.

- Milton Friedman

James Howard Kunstler has been predicting the fall of exurbian America for years, and he's a helluva lot more practical about what will happen and a lot less 'blood in the streets' hysteria than this guy.

Nevertheless, there will be a major shakeup in the way we live and interact with each other here in America. We will become much more "europeanized", in the sense that our communities will shrink into lots of smaller, tightly-knit units. Hey, you might even know your neighbor's first name for a change.

What about the dollar, are you still gonna be able to buy shit or should I be trading them in for platinum bricks and cocaine?

We'll have dollars until dollars are worthless. Then we will have a) another reserve fiat currency yet to be determined, b) our own new fiat currency, or c) a reserve currency based on sound money standard (gold). The last one will be whoever first jumps ship and pegs their fiat to gold. My guess is the renminbi will beat all to the punch.

P.S. Major economic collapses in the last decade have shown strong empirical evidence that the best barter item of all is .22LR ammo.

Might want to grab a few boxes while they're still cheap.

So let's say I have a few mil in the bank and the dollar becomes worthless, I'm poor now?

If we all chip in to build an armed fortress on a mountain with a backbone connection to the internet, and a few armored money carriers, we'll be fine.
