You're Going To Die

If a person is tripping on some drug and sees, hears, and believes shit is going on that really isn't there are we to believe them? Of course not, because we know their brain isn't functioning properly.

A drug addict, whether functioning properly or not, is still functioning. A person who died isn't, if he/she were... then we wouldn't consider that person "dead."

His story would be reliable because it would be supported by many similar stories. Certainly we can't give them all of our trust because they're claiming to be places we don't physically think is possible, but they would be only link we really have right now. And the fact that there are many many cases of this only adds to the possible credibility of it.

There are millions of "alien abductions" every year. Are they credible? They are all so similar too.....

I'm not talking about a drug addict, I'm just talking about an individual that happens to tripping fucking balls in the corner of the room spewing nonsense from his mouth. His brain is compromised, we don't believe the nonsense coming from his mouth. Hence, not functioning. (at least at a high enough level to provide accurate statements about reality)

A dead person... their brains are for sure compromised (while their dead) is definitely not going to be able to provide accurate statements about reality.

I mean as soon as your dead, your brain starts going to shit. We trust that? That's divine? Or is it some brain phenomenon that occurs after it has been resuscitated? We have NO idea either way. We shouldn't assume divine. We shouldn't assume lack of divinity either....

We simply DONT KNOW and it provides nothing to a god argument.

Lol for sure. I didn't mean drug addict but I meant somebody tripping balls on any type of drug.

Ofcourse everyone is gona die! You wana be imortal and be 200 and still living? Lets see who cleans up your bedpan...
Live like you were to die tomorrow. Make the best of today. It makes everyday worth it. And if you wana die...so be it....my name is James, mention it somewhere on your will.

"I've had two teenagers who were considering killing themselves, because they didn't want to be around when the world ends," he said. "Two women in the last two weeks said they were contemplating killing their children and themselves so they wouldn't have to suffer through the end of the world."

WTF. The more I learn about the general populous the more afraid I become...

How the fuck can you possibly imagine death? Have you ever talked to anybody that has gone through it?

Absolutely true story from today.

Met up with a friend who I haven't seen an about a year. He said, "you know what happened to me last June?"

Basically, he was coming home from a vacation, started to feel really faint, his girlfriend took him to the hospital and he collapsed.

He then woke up, in the hospital bed, the nurse asked him, "Do you know what day it is? He said, "No"

She replied that it was "3 WEEKS LATER and you almost died."

He went on to say... that nothing happened in between that time... he just remembered collapsing - then waking up - nothing in between. No time frame, no thoughts, no visions, nothing - just nothing.

he also dropped 15 pounds - so there's the diet secret.....

I'm not scared of dying a natural death at the end of a fulfilling life. Everybody dies, so it can't be a bad thing. I don't think that anything goes away when you die. Energy and matter don't just cease to exist, they change form. I don't know what happens to consciousness, maybe the consciousness of your one personality all gets distributed amongst other beings and you become part of lots of other personalities. Maybe it gets reincarnated. Who knows?

Think of all the billions of people who have lived and died. It must serve some purpose. Nature is the only real genius there is, so I trust it to do what it wants with me.

BOOM, BOOM, and BOOM I think we can safely say (I can) that anecdotal stories of people's near death experiences are moot. however....

This entire debate is moot because our differences are irreconcilable. Atheist vs. (Theist, or ???)

We just don't agree on a very fundamental level.

Some people want to believe in an afterlife, but I say... WE ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE, LIVE IT THE BEST YOU CAN. (Because if your betting on an afterlife, your odds aren't looking favorable)

Some good points and interesting theories raised in this thread. But, debating it is useless because nothing can be proven. To each man, his own beliefs.

One day, we will all die. That is a fact. There is no escaping it. You are mortal and your life will end. And only then will you truly know what happens after death.

Has anyone read the bible? It says people once lived to 700+ years old, whether that is in our standard year or not can questioned?

NWO conspiracy? Some super food that will grant a human being hundreds of years of life...?

Who knows if this shit is true or not...just throwing it out there

The guy with the bunny suit avatar should have said this, destruction is a form of creation.

Where I die grass grows.

Where my spirit goes? Not sure.

I can only hope the universe is just like earth - nothing wasted.

I'm not afraid of death, just of being wasted.

Do we have souls? Maybe, maybe not. That's not the point though, the point is the statement "Think about life before your existence and how it was" is irrelevant. You didn't exist before you existed, now you do exist.

And when you die you won't exist again, there, nice and simple for you.
