Right now I get it at my company as a benefit, but still pay a little bit, but im looking to do my own thing soon and my family loves to talk about how expensive having to pay for my own health insurance will be.

What do u guys pay?

for those that don't pay it ... why?

it makes sense if your healthy and stuff. and i'd even consider it, just askin tho - not hatin and saying you should have it.

For you guys that don't have any...why not?

Srs question.

Edit: To answer OP's question: about $260/mo with BCBS. Healthy, single 33 year old white male non-smoker.

Why pay 5k a year for something I rarely use? I go to the doc when needed. It cost a few hundred bucks to get checked out. I pay for my own dental which is about $200 a year (6 month cleaning), I don't eat sugar so I don't get cavities. So about 300 bucks a year in medical. Why would I pay 5k a year? So I can pay for unhealthy people or needy people to use it?

It varies WILDLY mine is like $1k a year but with a large deductible because I rarely go to doctors. It very much depends on your needs.

No, so you can have major medical and cover you / your families ass when you get cancer and owe millions for the treatment

Two things I've learned recently about individual plan health insurance in the US

1) Its way fucking cheaper in California
2) Its way fucking cheaper if you are a man

I don't have kids. If I did I would most likely have medical for them.

I would most likely go to a different country for cancer treatment if needed.

Close to $400/mo for me and the wife, she's got some medical conditions though and spends a lot of time in and out of hospitals, and we hit the low deductibles in the first couple months each year. That monthly rate may seem expensive but if we had to pay for her care out of pocket we'd be fucked for life.
