I outran them... it was 3 black guys, like 10 Pm and I was walking home... they where across the street and just like walked sorta parallel to me but slowly cutting me off.

Well I stopped walking, so did they... So I started jogging in the other direction, and they started running after me.

Well, my season of soccer just finished about 3 weeks ago, im still in pretty good shape...

I sprinted for like 4 blocks, they stopped chasing me, then I ran home.

My adrenaline was pumping, it was quite exciting...

Anyone else ever almost been mugged or mugged?

I only had about $20 on me, which I would have given, but they probably would have beat me up, which I dont really want to happen.

Shit things like that never happen here in India, you can walk at any point of time in the night. Singapore is also one of the safest city ......UK and USA Sucks....

Guess you've been living in utopia then. =) It happens more than you can imagine.

I always have a set of throwing knives on me. Carrying knives or a gun (like Maz) is essential in my opinion. I don't live in a real dangerous area as far as gangs and crime go, ans had never had problems myself, but I'd hate for something to happen that one day I left my knives at home.

I got mugged by 8 black guys outside of a party I was at. I was pretty drunk so it was kind of confusing. They knocked me around a little bit, showed me their gun, patted me down to check my wallet, and eventually one of the guys told the other guys to leave for some reason so I just punched him and ran. I still have a scar on my leg for trying to jump over a barbecue while getting away (don't ask me why I tried to do that.) They were obviously pretty high, and were accusing me of being a cop etc.

Anyways, I always carry a knife on me now. Thinking about taking the class for concealed carry so I can take my 9mm with me when I'm going somewhere I don't feel comfortable. I also have a fully modded ar-15 for home defense. Seems like overkill, but I like shooting guns anyways so I figured what the hell. I love having them.

That's my story, congrats for getting away. Live and learn I guess.

I got attacked in a tacobell bathroom years ago, beat the guys head on the hand drier then had lunch.

I was looking into getting a CCW a while back, and it's actually pretty easy as long as (1) you have no criminal record/felonies, and (2) you're prepared to sit through some really long training classes. That's how it is in Ohio, not sure about other states, but I'm guessing it would be similar.

Still, just because you have a gun and you're legally allowed to carry it doesn't mean you're not subject to the penalties for using that gun if the need arises. As far as I know, your life must be in immediate danger to constitute pulling that trigger.

They just started with the concealed carry law in my state a year or two ago. Your right about having a clean record. The class here runs 8 hours, and you do some shooting as well. The class is about $200, and the license is $400 for four years I believe.

You are definitely still held to a high standard as far as the law is concerned, but it does give you a little leeway. For example if someone else was in trouble, you would be able to provide them protection. I don't foresee myself ever shooting someone, but they do make you feel safer, and would give you the upper hand in a situation even if it is used to diffuse the situation rather than being used as a deadly weapon.

I'm lucky that I'm a physically imposing guy in that sense. Most people see me in my biker jacket and cross the street. Considering the weather patterns in Sydney & Melbourne, it's just sensible clothing... and the studs, spikes and chains are just fashion accessories. They'd snap if you tried anything funny...

But yeah, only ever been mugged once, and that's because I tried to help someone else who was being mugged at the time. The guy who was mugging this chick had a lookout or something because when I ran to help her, next thing I knew WHACK! and the ground rushes up to meet me. Next thing I know I'm getting up, and my phones gone, and there are all these people hovering around me just looking but not actually asking if I'm ok.
Jokes on the guy that took my phone, it was a Nokia 3210. He obviously couldn't figure out my real phone was what looks to be a small leather bound book (coolest mobile skin ever! Even has room for cash and some cards!)

But yeah, by and large, Australia's pretty safe. Muggings are rare enough to make the news most days.

Are you guys taking the piss or serious? I couldn't imagine walking around with a knife, let alone a gun.

Seriously, I think the only real guns I have ever seen in person have been clipped into a policeman's belt.

In Germany, you'll be in deep shit if you use a knife on an attacker.
Courts hate those things and if you've been actually carrying one around, that is held against you.

^^^ But your honour it wasn't my knife i disarmed him

we struggled and it accidently slipped into his gut...:rasta:

Me neither. I don't think I could actually push a knife into another person, and even if I could then who's to say the mugger hasn't got a knife or a gun on him and probably has no problems using it on you. If I hesitated that would be that. I'd rather just run tbh.

If anything I'd use pepper spray. If the mugger is blinded then you've got a pretty good chance of getting away.

Little known fact:
Most people hurt with weapon in a robbery are actually hurt by their own weapon which has been taken away from them.
Yes, normal/nice people often do not have the guts and/or the training to wield a weapon effectively.
Also, taking out a weapon will up the agression scale of any encounter something fierce.

In the UK you will get arrested if you are found to posess a knife. Posession of a gun will get you a minimum of 5 years in prison. You're not even allowed to carry any object which is designed to be used to hurt other people.

In America, under what circumstances are you allowed to shoot your attacker?

When I went to school in Harrisburg I had a knife on me 24/7. I even kept it beside my bed when I slept (on campus). Only law is it has to be under the length of your 4 fingers held together, left to right. So I kept a 2 inch flip on me.

As for stabbing someone - nah. I could easily use it to slice while defending myself if needed. That has no impact on my morals whatsoever.

Been mugged and beaten a few times... but then we used to mug and beat up the others too. So i guess what goes around comes around.
