Place to Live with Wide Open Land

I'd say a budget of around 1 mil max. A lot of these really nice homes only seem to be in the $500k-$700k range which isn't bad.

Maybe I'm a psychopath, but this huge part of me just wants to get out into the open. Have a place where there's always somewhere new to explore, beautiful views, own as many guns as you want, get a huge house with a few people and just sort what you want out of life out without the everyday bullshit you're fed by the general population.

Some pretty sweet places within 60 minutes of AUckland, New Zealand. Close to a good city. Good internet. Cheap as chips.

Living in the country is great.

Get yourself some dirt bikes, ATV's, and snowmobiles and you will have a blast just cruising around.

Plus, you'll be in a good hiding spot from the FTC/Feds. (is this the real reason you want to move out in the middle of nowhere? lmao)

We have to be near a city for hubby's job but I have the same desire for a little seclusion as well. Not sure what that's about as it's pretty new. So we need one of those deceptive areas where it looks and feels like you're out in BFE but there's a city right around the corner somewhere. We've been looking into Golden, Co, I believe it's about 25 minutes to Denver. COhomefinder | 79 Lodge Pole Way Golden, CO 80403 - MLS #552669 - Home for sale at Colorado HomeFinder
I feel the same way. I want to be near stuff (like decent hospitals), but I don't need (or want) to be near people.

However, I'd like to be in driving distance of a beach *and* mountains for spontaneous day trips.

If you look into the Deer Valley area of Park City, there is comcast up to 12Mbit at the moment.

Some areas of Utah have 50gb fiber through a municipal service, look into UTOPIA if you're thinking about buying here.

Also, look at sandpoint, idaho. I'm considering relocating there. Relatively cheap houses with mountains, nature, etc all around. Great ski mountain (schweitzer) and close to the BC ski areas.

How bout a big can of STFU, publicity like this has tripled the home prices in the last 5 years and doubled the population. But you did forget to mention Lake Pend Oreille, 47 miles long and 120 miles of shoreline.

Seriously tho, if you move up here, lets team up and crush the local longterm "internet authority" site. Or some project. Or some beerz.

You just described Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Northwestern Montana to a T. You left out the redneck asshole part of the equation but that's a given.

Does this "wide open land" work for you? I'm sure the land and taxes are pretty cheap out there!

As much as I love the mountains and open plains, not being near a body of salt water kind of freaks me out. I'll eventually probably settle back on the BC coast perhaps on the Sea to Sky highway somewhere between Vancouver and Whistler/Blackcomb or on what is known as the Sunshine Coast, a short ferry ride away.

Ocean front property FTW.

^ hard to beat the Squamish combo for sea, mountains and city proximity. Looking at the Chief all day is hard work tho.

with the exception of the east coast states, california, nevada and new mexico i think just about every other state has what you want. You may want to think more along the lines of picking a climate.
