Joomla or Wordpress ?

joomla sucks. yes...it sucks. way too complicated...over did the back-end panel.
imo...a content management system should be straight forward.
content, template, library.
store your stuff in the appropriate areas and your done.
wp is easy....plugins are accessible

Joomla has too many options and when you are in the ControlPanel, you think that you are lost.
Even if I can manage it but found it hard.
When I install WP for a client, I need only 2 or 3 hours to explain to him how to use it, but with Joomla, I need days and days, and they always come again with new questions.
yup...been in the web industry for the past 11 years and it made me feel like an idiot being in there. made me want to cuss out the maker
It really depends on what functionality you need. Usually, Wordpress is good enough. If I can I always use WP. Yes, Joomla is a pain in the ass to work with and I avoid it like the plague...but it can do things that WP can't out of the box. I've been wanting to test out concrete5 - Free CMS | Open Source Content Management System on a project, but haven't had the time yet.

Yes, I already said that Joomla has a lot of options
But I think developers should try to made it easier for users.
I've built over 200 joomla websites in the past five years, I've built a few wordpress sites and I don't like it personally.
I'm used to all of the things Joomla has available, I particularly prefer Joomla modules over wordpress widgets.

this just goes to show preference. everyone builds a site differently, everyone's accustomed to there own ways...
this is why this thread is really irrelevant as to which is "better". there's perks to each.
but i gotta question soupyone...when you first started using joomla to build your site...what was your experience as a developer at that stage?
i find it extremely confusing and to the point of un-neccessary when it comes to the building structure. honestly i feel like it's all over the map...instead of like how i mentioned earlier.
i feel like they've made joomla with all the perks in it, to not enhance the front end but to sell the fact that developers have more options when in fact, most websites don't need all those perks/widgets, plugins etc...
i guess that also depends on the sites we're building.
Thanks for "outting me bro". When I first started using Joomla back in the 1.0 days it was the most confusing thing ever. I don't even know why I kept with it, probably because of a lack of more robust options.
Now that I've used it every day of my life I can do anything and everything with it, I even passed the elance Joomla quiz (I did score higher on the Marketing Management quiz though).

If I have a site that I cannot make work well with Wordpress, I take a step back and usually say, "What am I over complicating here?"
Joomla is great on a side-note, but Wordpress is simple. And simple will trump great in just about every field you can imagine. Sorry Joomla, take your silly name and join Drupal in the "Silly-Name, No One Uses You" part of the internet.

This is the comment that will make you choose Wordpress: Googlebot loves Wordpress. All websites that I build using WP get indexed super quickly and crawled like a charm... so if SEO is in your mind, go for Wordpress without thinking...
