Joomla or Wordpress ?

This is the comment that will make you choose Wordpress: Googlebot loves Wordpress. All websites that I build using WP get indexed super quickly and crawled like a charm... so if SEO is in your mind, go for Wordpress without thinking...

being indexed and crawled quickly has nothing to do with wordpress or any cms whatsoever

I've used both. I use Joomla for content sites that are to be set up the traditional way and Wordpress for sites that are going to be set up blogging style or that require less than say 20 pages. Joomla is way to complex for the average Joe and takes longer to FTP... up to you in the end of the day. Wordpress has been modified to do about anything or can be for that matter.

Oh and Joomla templates are easier to make :-D

although this is an apples and oranges comparison, joomla has frustrated the hell out of me on several occasions. wordpress never has.

what more evidence does one need?

As stated earlier this depends on the needs of the site.

Blogging and simple <20 page sites can do well with WP

Sites that want more user interaction, multi-software & database syncing, and more features should look into Joomla.

I have been using Joomla since it was Mambo. Most of my customers learn Joomla quickly, and I strip all unnecessary items out of the back end to make it simpler.

As stated above, Joomla templates are about 11ty BILLION times easier to make, modify and fix.

Jhirley, what do you need the website to do?

If you zip it, upload it, then unzip it remotely Joomla takes about 5 mins to install...

Anyone going to rep me? I just saved someone 45 minutes:)

may be at the moment WP is better! but, soon Joomla mega release with brand new joomla...some ppl told that it will be hot!

Its already zipped when you download it. Upload, unzip, install. 4 minutes FLAT.

Once you learn Joomla, its not hard at all to use. 1.5X fixed alot of the stupid in 1.x. Paired with a good template, the sky is the limit of what you can do with it. With that said, if I want a simple or a straight content site, I use WP.

The next release is 1.6, and its not that major of an upgrade.

Joomla is awesome I really like it. I use it to do alot of funky shit. Wordpress is also good but it does all depend on its use... for AM I would say it then depends on the site you are building. if it is specially for a blog styled site then WP all the way.. if it is for doing membership management, banner management etc then Joomla has alot of great options and community plugins that will handle most of the tasks that Joomla cannot handle out of the box. Just like wordpress can but wordpress in my opinion is best for blog styled sites...
