I've been in this business for close to 3.5 years now, and I have to say, it takes a huge toll on your body. We weren't meant to sit in front of the computer for 10-12 hours per day.

I started seeing a Chiropractor last year due to neck pain and lower back pain from sitting. It really does help. Anybody else visit a Chiropractor regularly due to pain from sitting at your computer all day?

Forget the chiropractor and go find an acupuncturist. They are miracle workers and after a couple weeks you will feel like a million bucks.

My lower back is fucked from lifting injuries. Couple years ago I went too heavy into deadlifts too quickly, 405lbs my 2nd week back after taking a few months off.. It was fine, until a few days later I was doing my first light warmup set for squats, something snapped and I could barely walk out of the gym.

Took a few weeks to heal, and I would aggravate it every so often but it always got better, until last month.. Now it's pretty much consistent lower back pain isolated to the left side.. few weeks of chiropractics now and no improvement. Sucks ass, but fuck it, not going to let it stop me from running/tennis/gym; 800mg of ibuprofen seems to make it bearable.

Damn. I have a subluxation in my L4. I aggravated it pretty bad last week doing barbell rows. Couldn't walk properly, bend over for like a week. Hurt like hell too.

Maybe you should consider switching chiropractors? Is your guy the best in your area?

Not sure.. I'm going to wait this out until switching.

But yeah, the worst pain after hurting it occurs in the morning.. getting out of bed trying to stand up.. lol. After the initial injury, the pain was so bad I was literally crawling out of bed.

Chiropractors do work, if you find the right one. The reason people claim they do nothing is because a chiropracter can't force you to change your posture, or lift weights/get exercise to fix the weakness that hurt your back in the first place.

They aren't a cure-all, but a good chiropractor will have you walking out of their office an inch taller. If you're really hurt, the relief will only be temporary for the reasons I mentioned above. Think of them as an aid and/or advisor -- not a "be all, end all" solution.

My chiropractor was the Toronto Argos physical therapist for years, and really knows his shit. He gave me a few treatments, told me where I was going wrong with my posture and told me to come see him if I had anymore problems. That was ten years ago and I haven't felt back/neck pains since. It's all because of his advice regarding posture and strengthening weak areas that did it for me.

Very true.

But I always cringe when I hear about people getting spinal surgery for a herniated disc when they haven't even tried to visit a chiropractor.

About a decade ago I drank the Chiropractic Kool-aide too. An L6 subluxation for me. I went to them every time my back hurt or 'went out' and at one point they had me do a 3-times-weekly visit to come in and get electroshock treatment on it.

Another Chiropractor tried to sell me some fancy vitamins that would help my spleen not cause this problem! Just $3 a pill... Just vitamins, no prescription...

But it felt great when they could pop your back into shape, didn't it?

Fucking Quacks! Any doctor could do that!

Watch this & all will be revealed:

Bullshit! Season 1 episode 2

They're playing you for money, man. All it takes is a few back exercises. I haven't gone to a quackopracticer in like 9 years now and my back hasn't gone out in 5 years due to just looking Up at the ceiling once each day and holding it for 10 seconds.

Real doctors, (okay just some of them) know how to FIX your back.

Chiropractors only how how to FLEECE your wallet in a way that does not end.

Go watch that film above.

I don't like them. They do the same procedure on every person, you can tell. This leads me to believe that they are are quacks. Personally I've gotten better results from yoga and acupuncture...or just yoga if you don't trust acupuncture.

Did the chiropractor take xrays first? This should be the very first thing they do to make sure there isn't any bone or cartilage damage that might only be aggravated by their therapy.

Have you seen an actual physician?

800mg doses of Ibuprofen aren't the solution man. That can have adverse effects in and of itself.

I do reflexology when my back acts up AND go to the gym to do some planks (look it up) and work my quads and hamstrings.

Also, exercises to loose up the hips: tight hips, sore back.

On the internet, reflexology is complete quackery but it works for me.

In my experience (15+ years) of a bad back, going through the "official" medical system is a waste of time. You gotta see a GOOD sports trainer, physio guy, whatever. Somebody who has dealt with professional athletes ie people who NEED their bodies fixed and fire people who try the usual medical bullshit advice on sore backs (lie down for 3 days and take lots of painkiller).

Good point by Fatbat. All good chiropractors take X-rays before starting treatment, as well as every 12-15 appointments to track progress. Do not visit any chiropractor if they don't take x-rays.

@lukep: I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Did you get x-rays? I've never heard of a chiropractor doing electro-shock therapy..were you getting adjustments as well?

Agreed. I have had had much more success by seeing an acupuncturist.

BTW, make sure you're not leaning forward to look at your monitor. If you are, your monitor is too far away.

Why not just exercise?

I can full sprint 2 miles and ive been working in front of a computer since I was 13. No pain here.

Man up fatty's :)

Settle down before you call someone a fatty. Been bodybuilding for the past 10 years. I work out 6 days a week. 45 min workout with 20 min of cardio every time.

Don't ever assume anything about me.

Next time ask permission to speak to me.

Stretching (especially your back) will enable you to fire your chiropractor.

That's how I was able to fire mine.
