Any of you see a Chiropractor regularly for Back/Neck pain?

Settle down before you call someone a fatty. Been bodybuilding for the past 10 years. I work out 6 days a week. 45 min workout with 20 min of cardio every time.

maybe mix your workouts into your workday. also, switch up your work station. i usually start off in the kitchen at the counter, always stand and pace when on business calls, walk the dog midday, work at my desk, and then move to my patio in the evenings if i'm still working.

there are some really good chairs out there too but they cost a fuckload. but if your back is getting fucked, it may be worth the investment. generally i would say if you have to hit the quackterpractor or a bottle of advil every day you are masking the symptoms of a larger, serious problem.

search "embody chair" on amazon. they are on sale right now. thinking about getting another one.

also, smoking can cause carpal tunnel shit...i used to get ct all the time when i was a smoker.....the slightest thing like how high your monitor is can be a huge factor.

My lower back is fucked from lifting injuries. Couple years ago I went too heavy into deadlifts too quickly, 405lbs my 2nd week back after taking a few months off.. It was fine, until a few days later I was doing my first light warmup set for squats, something snapped and I could barely walk out of the gym.

Took a few weeks to heal, and I would aggravate it every so often but it always got better, until last month.. Now it's pretty much consistent lower back pain isolated to the left side.. few weeks of chiropractics now and no improvement. Sucks ass, but fuck it, not going to let it stop me from running/tennis/gym; 800mg of ibuprofen seems to make it bearable.

Man I was doing front squats with only 225 and broke a damn rib, was crazy. Then like 6 months later getting back in the gym had 225 on there again for regular squats and blew out a disc in my lower back.

That was like 5 years ago and ever since then sitting at my desk for extended hours sucks. I'm so stiff when I get up and no it's not because of porn, haha.

I go to the chiropractor and it helps for sure with the back. You need to get tell them to use the TENS unit (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) then the decompression table.

Decompression table is amazing if you haven't used it. They strap your upper body down on one half and your lower on the other. Then the table slowly decompresses or stretches your back out.

@GerardWon: Yea, I've been doing alot more stretches now. But I'm in the maintenance phase now and go once every 2 weeks. I don't mind paying $90/month to keey my spine healthy and properly aligned.

@DocApocalypto: Yea, the first thing I did was optimize my work station. Raised my monitor, got my chair at a good height, etc. Problem is I have one of the big comfy leather chairs, they feel great, but have no lower back support whatsoever. I think I might buy a chair though, its a tax write-off for the home office anyway.

Yea I've seen some spinal decompression clinics in the area, I'm guessing its the same technique? Reminds me of some pre-historic torture a la Braveheart though, lol.

@lukep: I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Did you get x-rays? I've never heard of a chiropractor doing electro-shock therapy..were you getting adjustments as well?
Yes, the xrays showed a tiny misalignment between T6 & T7. He told me that it would likely always happen there and he was right. Whenever my back went out he knew just how to do an adjustment to pop it back into place.

His long-term prescription is what I had a problem with. If he wasn't interested in turning me into his own personal ATM then he'd have told me that all I gotta do is some simple excersizes and my muscles in that area would be strong enough to make up for the weak spine for good.

Nay, he quacked me hard from that point on. Insurance covered it, and there were pretty girls in the lobby so why not? I was hooked and looked forward to my voltage for months...

Seriously dude; watch that short, funny episode of Bullshit linked above. The quacktologist industry may have a few ppl in it better than my (multiple) quacks, but overall the entire industry IS A SCAM and no matter if decent folks get mixed up in it or not... It's just not good science!

Went to chiropractor before, yeah being on the computer to much will really fuck up your posture/body if your not sitting correctly taking proper breaks. I go to the gym/take computer breaks every 2 hours now feel lot better.

Buy this book, it's fucking awesome:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Steps-Pain-Free-Life-Rapidly-Relieve/dp/0452282772]Amazon.com: 7 Steps to a Pain-Free Life: How to Rapidly Relieve Back and Neck Pain (9780452282773): Robin McKenzie, Craig Kubey: Books[/ame]

(and a lot cheaper than a Chiropracter)

Also - do yoga, not chiropractic. Chiropracters (and Orthopedic surgeons for that matter) can only give you a temporary fix.

The most likely reason you have problems is because you're out of shape from sitting on your ass in front of a PC all day, and the muscles which would normally keep your back working properly have withered away. Doing yoga (or pilates) will help strengthen them .

EIDT - title not coming up for some reason - it's called 7 steps to a pain-free life.

Where do you like to have your eyes meet on the screen?

good question.

on my macbook i find myself hunching sometimes because i'm well over my screen.

i've been experimenting, but i just got a new imac with the screen size of a football field and i'd say middle, or slightly above middle with screen about 3 feet back and i barely have to move my head to look around, its like being enveloped in screenage. my big challenge with my desktop set up is finding a mouse setup that works with the huge screen. been mixing that up too with a graphics tablet, but don't rely on that or you will get some serious pains. for me, mixing shit up is key. repetitive stress is what fucks you. if you are a laptop guy they make these podium type setups where you can stand up at a counter.

if i were you i would use your injuries as motivation to figure out ways to outsource more and be less of a worker bee. spend your time managing, checking in, making calls, sipping pina coladas, that sort of thing. thats where the big moolah is anyway. anything someone else can do, let them, and grow your strat.

Our physicality is built for motion. sitting all day long is so not how nature meant for us to live and there is a ton of consequences among whih tightening and shortening of muscle and connective tissue is a biggie.

Stretching and getting into motion again is the name of the game. Certainly can happen with the help of a chiropractor, a physical therapist, dynamic yoga.... you name it.

went to a chiropractor for about 6 weeks once, didnt do shit for me...

general muscle building exercises and marijuana cured me

Just had something "crack" 2 weeks ago, and it left me unable to sit. Still can't sit lol. I'm mitigating the pain by using my made-at-home stand up desk. But seriously considering yoga due to recommendations here.

Why not just exercise?

I can full sprint 2 miles and ive been working in front of a computer since I was 13. No pain here.

Man up fatty's :)

lol @ "full sprinting" 2 miles. Do you really think you can hold your 100m speed for 2 miles?

Yo, just practise this instead.

I started going to chiro after a bad car crash. It reduced my migraines significantly.
After a session I always have to adjust the mirror in my car when I jump back in, and it feels like I've been given an extra lung to breathe with.

It's not a cure by any means, but it helps for up to a few weeks later for me.

Chiropractor did wonders for my wife, me, and even the kids. Of course, we did a lot of due diligence before picking one.
