Anyone else tired of this "tipping culture" bullshit?

I once tip the Pizza delivery guy 80c because he kept calling me "sir". I could actually hear him sighing as he left.

I'm sorry Ahmed but you tried too hard.

Most pizza delivery workers get paid only on tips. So I always tip $2-$3 for a delivery.

NYC is bad when it comes to tipping... ended up once tipping my hotel receptionist for $10 accidentially but that guy at least got me the hotel town car to drive me around town and they had to handle me the whole week mostly drunk.

Another hilarious story was when the cab driver brought me back to the airport. I think that a trip is like $45 fixed and the dude was seriously looking at me with an OMG face after I gave him $50 and told him its good. He prolly expected more from a tourist. The dude was on the fucking phone all the time!

About these dudes in the washrooms, lol ya they are mostly black. Why? No idea. But hey when they hook me up with gums and shit like that I do tip them. But nah, not for handing me a paper towel, lol.

Agree with tipping waitresses and bartenders. Waitresses live from your tips and bartenders will eventually get you drunk for cheaper if you tip them well.

QFT. Here in New York, I even saw a 'washman' in a TGI Friday restaurant. That shit is like on the same level as a Burgerking; just slightly more professional. I was laughing my head off when I saw that it. Who the fuck wants someone watching them pee, wash their hands, and towel off; not me.

I agree with this entire thread. I think its fucking bullshit how this tipping shit has gotten out of control. I love the tip jar at Starbucks. I just paid 200-300% markup for a tasty coffee, you ain't getting shit else.

The best place I saw a tip jar was Jack in the box drive through, I just laughed. The attendant said "We take tips" and shook the jar, all I could say is "I bet you do." Fuck you. Do your fucking job. Don't like the pay rate? Quit.

I tip 3 people:
My barber
Waitresses
My massage therapist (only if I get a happy ending)

If the maid does a shitty job during my stay at a hotel, I usually leave a shit in the bowl when I leave.

LOL, same here!

I checked into an Allegiant Air terminal in Las Vegas a few years ago. The guy checking the bags CURBSIDE said "we're not affiliated with teh airline so any tips are appreciated". They actually called me over after I left and repeated that phrase. I shouted to the other schmucks in line that they were not allowed to tip and no one should be doing it, then left.

My wife's friend who was further back in line said not a single person tipped after I yelled that..

FYI: Waiters and waitresses get paid less than 3 bucks an hour in most places. That 3 dollars an hour is pretty much never 'seen' in a paycheck.

Why?

They pay taxes just like everyone else. 8 percent of their total orders taken.

That tax comes out of their < $3 per hour.

If you don't tip at least 8 percent they are just getting taxed on shit they didn't make.

I only tip for exceptional service, or when the waitress gives me a blowjob. (whichever comes first) so don't expect a fucking tip because you... or poured my drink.

Bartenders get the same shitty $2.something an hour waitresses get, they should be tipped. Tip a bartender really well and your bill will be a LOT lower overall once they get to know you.

My policy:
Tip the people who bring you something- waitresses, bartenders etc.
Tip the people who put up with you while drunk: drunk cab rides and party hosts
Tip the people who know your name when you walk in the door: mom and pop shops and other service people who you do regular business with.
Exactly! Take care of these guys and they'll take care of you.

I tip bartenders who keep it coming, cabs taking me home from the airport, and waitresses if they're nice to me, or have big boobs. Those Starbucks tip jars piss me off. You poured me an over priced cup of coffee and you want a fucking tip? I leave the pennies from my change in those jars.

I tip no-one except for sit-down, restaurant food service.

I refused to tip a stripper in the Spearmint at ASW09 even after she got me off in the VIP section, haha. I just stood there waiting for my $20 change from a 100 I think. She didn't look happy but fuck her, it was $80 for 10 mins already.

Bartenders who know my drink and have it ready as I'm walking in the door get 25-50%
My barber gets 30-50% because I want that place to stay in business so I don't ever have to go to one of the chain joints (if you are too un-coordinated to be a stripper "cutting hair" should not be the fallback career).
Valets get $3 on the way in. I used to be one, and I know that "on the way in" is code for "don't fuck up this guy's car".

We had a dude who came 2-3 times a week to our casino for years, never once tipped anyone. We helped him unload his wife's wheelchair and oxygen mask, opened doors for them, waited with her while he parked his own car on occasion... nothing.
Finally one night we parked his car under a fire sprinkler that had been sheared off. The water in those pipes is nasty, and so was the look on his face when he picked his car up.
If you tip a valet on the way in, they typically write that on the card so the next guy knows to hustle and bring the car up quick and scratchless.

Cab drivers can keep the change in most cases.
Waitstaff gets 10-20% based on service, if they bring stuff.
Bussers get $1-3 depending on what's in my pocket (buffets and the like).

I hate bathroom attendants. I laugh at them, and usually grab my own towel if possible. WTF am I tipping for? Are you gonna coach me? Comment on my form?

I agree with the majority of the sentiment in this thread. I tip at least 20% for servers because I was one for a long time, so it's the server code, I guess. No body else gets tipped unless they are doing something special to deserve it, like manual labor or an extra errand, or giving me some sort of special treatment.

I don't like how this culture is held hostage by guilt when it comes to tipping. The pay should be worked out with their employers or the state not the patrons.

Bartenders get the same shitty $2.something an hour waitresses get, they should be tipped. Tip a bartender really well and your bill will be a LOT lower overall once they get to know you.

I just don't get the logic. Because the establishment doesn't pay the employee enough, its up to me, the patron, to make up the difference? Fuck that. Yes I know, I will get better drinks, I will get a better bill. But its the principalities that bug me. A 2$ hourly wage is between the employer and the employee If the employee doesn't like it, they should find a better job.

So I have to pay extra for you 1. not to fuck up my car and 2. not park my car under shit water, even though my wife is in a wheelchair and on oxygen.

I would of had your fucking job.

the last time i tipped someone, was at a bar down the street from me. the bartender charged me $17 for about 2-3 pitchers of beer, 3-4 bottles of beer, and like 10 shots.

I think i tipped about 75%. Not sure why the bill was so cheap but even though I left such a large tip, it was still cheaper than paying full price for all those drinks and then tipping on top of that.
