Anyone use an exercise ball for a chair?

Sitting on mine right now. :)

I probably use it about 5-8 hours a day. It's so much better than a regular chair. It stretches out the back and constantly keeps it warm without tiring it out. And it's like a little cloud for your tush. Really, I rode my bike the other day for the first time in a while and I was so sore even the couch was hurting my heiny, but the ball didn't.

Edit: I would say however that you have to make sure you have a keyboard tray that drops down low enough for the proper angle to keep your arms at your sides, other wise you risk shoulder and neck tension. But, as for the lower back, it's awesome.

Edit2: Why are you even debating it? They're like 10-20 dollars max. Go get one and see for your self.

Edit3: Nm just read your post that you got it. Btw the people that complain that hurts worse probably have backs so injured that they need serious physical therapy to get to a place where they can even function like a normal person (trust me, I've got 20 years experience dealing with this shit)

Well ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you, that exercise ball hurt like hell too (after about an hour). So I woke up this morning and hit a few stores. In all I probably sat on 100+ chairs (some $2k chairs), and get this shit, the best chair I found was on sale at Office Depot for $39.

I bought the fabric version of this chair: Alvy Vinyl Task Chair 40 1 4 H x 24 3 4 W x 28 1 4 D Black by Office Depot

Maybe it's my bony ass, I don't know, but this chair just fits really well. The back support is exactly where I need it to be. I'm going on six hours and have no pain at all... something I could never have done with the Herman Miller or previous chairs I've owned.

That Office video made me lol. I'm sure there are times where the hubby would like to do that to mine. On another hilarious note, my 8 year old tries to sit on it but can't quite reach the floor with his legs so he has to hold on to something. Now imagine that with an 8 year olds energy...so he's constantly bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy and then the other day he bounced right off, went flying.
I laughed so hard my sides hurt. <--- Mother of the year.

jackin off doesn't count :338:

I wonder if the ball would actually help in productivity. I mean, it would slash beat off sessions right in half (Or completely?). I don't really know if you can actually sit on the ball and stroke one out without falling off the fucking thing.

TERRIBLE for your back for extended periods of time, good for your back for short periods with a lot of moving around (say - 30 minute meetings in a conference room type).

I did for 6+ months, ended up worsening my back. I then moved to a Herman Miller Embody - bliss.

I use my Aeron for 14+ hours a day, don't exercise, and I have no back pain. I've been using the Aeron for 7 or 8 years.

I think switching for one month and not seeing results is faulty reasoning. If your back is fucked up, even switching to a good chair isn't going to help your back right away unless you repair the problems you have first. Back problems are chronic and difficult to fix for the most part.

You sit in a chair for 14+ hours a day, and don't exercise!
If I did that, I'd look like this:

I sit on a giant ball for up to 8 hours....

Then I rotate and sit on the other one.

You know you can "Accessorize" right?

Alright, if this new chair loses it's luster for you, you can go here to get the ULTIMATE accessory package:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Tush-Compu-Computer-Office-Cushion/dp/B000X2IUKM/ref=pd_sim_misc_1]Amazon.com: Tush Cush Car / Compu Computer Office Seat Cushion - Black: Kitchen & Dining[/ame]

See the frequently bought together items below the seat cushion for the ULTIMATE COMBO I speak of. (This would be the cheap route.)

I once knew a guy in a wheel chair that had an awesome pneumatic seat cushion you could probably find at some Health Supply store. It was one like this:

Quadtro Select High Profile and Low Profile Cushions RHOQS109C

As for the lower back, I have both a lumbar Wedge Pillow and some firm round tube type pillows that I change around from time to time if my back starts to bother me.

Back Cushions - Desk Chair Back Cushions & Car Seat Back Support Cushions

Durable Bolster Pillows & Neck Roll Pillows for Healthy Support.

I'm in this chair and another one for anywhere from 14 to 20 hours at a stretch. Like you I have found that the expensive chairs do not always give me the most comfort.

My main chair is a newer leather high back chair and my second chair is an OLD (1990) commercial high back steel framed chair with fabric. (Still looks new too. The pneumatics are a little sluggish though.) It's rated for a 40 hour work week. (Wrong bushiness for that!! Lulz) I keep a wedge lumbar cushion on it. I sometimes put it behind me and other times I sit on it to change my position to something more comfortable after a few hours.

I've been in quite a few car wrecks, I was never at fault or charged in them, and have had to deal with low back pain for over 30 years now.

On a side note here for anyone with back pain. I've found that the Leather Rockport Pro Walker & their Dress Shoes are pretty good if you find you have to stand or walk for long periods of time. (Like at Disney World.)

just get a lazyboy recliner Larson All Leather Recliner by La-Z-Boy

I have had lower back problems since I was 12. The recliner takes all pressure and weight off the back and disperses it to the thighs, legs, shoulders - not to mention it is just flat out comfortable.

I use a graphic tablet for a mouse (prevents carpal tunnel) and it sits perfect on the arm rest. The keyboard I place on my lap and the monitor is on a makeshift swing-arm table top that hovers above me.

^ Thanks for those links, I've bookmarked them in case I need them.

I've been in this $39 chair for two days now and don't have any back pain at all.

Back's good... ass must be sweaty from the vinyl though. Blech.

No arms is a plus but the back on that thing is so low it would drive me nuts. I like to lean back, rest my head, and relax.

Did you try the Obusforme?

You do realize all the expensive chairs that have been mentioned take a fair bit of tuning to get right for your particular physique, right? You can't just plunk your ass down and hope that it's going to be a perfect fit. It's not something you mentioned, but how much time did you spend on setting up your Aeron?

Show floor models aren't going to be tuned up for you either.

I got the fabric version, so the chair isn't sticky. And I actually like the low back, it lets me lean back and it pops my back for me. And nope, I didn't try Obusforme either, I'll keep that on the list if this doesn't work.

As for the Aeron, I sat in it for a good 400+ hours and tweaked it a little every single day. I never could find a setup that felt good after an hour.
