Buy a juicer

Inspired by this thread I kind of started yesterday with the Odwalla Superfood stuff you get at the grocery store. Yesterday evening a friend showed me how to put that green recipe together which helped out a great deal. Gave me some overall advice and his main point was that if you can survive past the first 3 days - you'll be fine.

Today is officially Day 1 of the 'System reboot' juice diet!!!

So far so good and while I'm a 'little' hungry its not hard core hunger pains. Trying to stay ahead of it by drinking some juice and water every so often.

For dinner with the family I'm going to be doing a can of tomato soup so I have something to eat while sitting down with them. Would be weird not eating with wife and kids!

Been watching some of the Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead Youtube videos from other people which are inspiring.

One of the things I worried about was not having enough protein but according to calculations you are actually getting MORE then you need. So no worries about major muscle loss (vs. Fat).

Let's see if I can make it past Day 3!!!

P.S. If anyone wants to chat on skype, so we help keep each other motivated, feel free to send me an IM and I'll add you.

Good job man!

Yeah you can get tons of protein from vegetables, all the amino acids you need :). If you are worried about muscle loss the main thing you'd want to do is actually work out your muscles, this helps retain more mass while losing fat since your body usually gets rid of muscle first THEN fat.

So you'll lose muscle mass no matter what, regardless of protein intake, unless you're doing some working out. Keep it up man, if other people's experiences are any indication you'll get hooked on nothing but juice and have a hard time going back.

Id love to get a juicer but with out a supply of affordable produce id never do it. Every grocery store here sells apples for like 3/lb thats 1.50 per fucking apple. I figue it would cost a fortune to get this going. Im pissed enough i dont have enough fruit just for eating let alone juicing. It seems like socicty has fucked us into bad eating habbits by pricing us out of food.

Time to find some fruit carts... The "farmers" market here is nich organic so its like 2.50 a apple.

Asian stores are sometimes a good place to find cheaper fruits/vegetables/greens if you have any in your area.

$0.79/pound is the cheapest that I ever see bananas at my local supermarket, but they are $0.29/pound every day at one of the asian stores.

+1 to this.

Ethnic grocery stores and farmers markets. If it helps to go out of town for a bit, you can stock up for the week provided you have refrigerator space.

Food keeps better in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container, so plastic bags with ties help them stay fresh longer.

I don't get it. Most of you guys complaining about high food prices don't think twice when you pay $7 for a beer at the bar, and you'll buy 6+ beers in one night without feeling any guilt (except for the hangover the next day). But when an organic apple costs $1 more per pound than hormone-shot apples, you bring on your jew-jitsu lol

Get your shit together people.

Agreed 100%!

However, shopping for yesterdays ingredients came to almost exactly $15 which made me 1 gallon/1 days worth of juice. Compare that to your normal grocery bill.

The local Asian stores are always an option, however, if you are close to a metropolitan area they usually have suppliers for your local Restaurants, cafeterias etc..

Instead of buying 3 or 4 apples at the Grocery store, buy an entire box of for $20..

$14 today got me a big ass thing of kale, big bag of carrots, 10 apples, ginger, 4 cucumbers and a giant stalk of celery. That's about enough juice for 3-4 days, not too shabby. Trick is to find reasonably priced produce though and if you're in the wrong area there's not a whole lot you can do.

We do have several asian grocery stores in the area but they only carry more exotic things, Nothing I would really want to juice. Ive never see a pear, apple, banana, or orange at them. Kinda SOL unless I go exploring, ill try to find a more ethnic part of town and hunt for produce.

I don't make money to waste it, I would never buy a 7 dollar beer, partly because id know I was getting ripped off and because I don't drink. I make my money to keep it. I know damn well apples don't cost 1.50-2.50 per apple so I refuse to pay it, that's the "idiot" price that they put out. At the end of the day if I am buying $7 beers and $2.50 apples I wouldn't have money for long.

Got my Omega Vert 350 today! Couldn't wait to try it. Problem is, we haven't gone to the grocery store to stock up yet. All I have is some apples, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Oh well....

Cut up the apples and started juicing :D

OMG, best apple juice I've ever tasted! Not sugary and syrupy like the shit from the store. The amount of juice that just a couple apples puts out is insane! I think I juiced about 8 apples, and had at least 2 cups of juice. About half reds and half greens. Was pleasantly surprised that the green apples weren't as sour as I expected. Mixed was good, shots of red and shots of green were good. It was all good.

So, then figured "let's clean the juicer and try the tomatoes and cukes". Threw the tomatoes in first and did a shot of that. Yum. Love tomatoes. Then added two whole cucumbers... mistake. Lot of juice, not much flavor. Kinda watery, and too cucumbery. I'm not a big fan of cukes, but I think if they were mixed with more tomatoes and some other stuff, they'd be really tasty.

Can't wait to hit the store and start juicing everything I can.

The fat man is AMPED to get healthy! Got a DR appt tomorrow so I can get a baseline. Taking blood, weight, height, the works. Then I'll go back after 30 days to get an update.

Sick as fuck man. Great work and great initiative. I'm also getting addicted to it. Cucumbers straight are def. pretty watery. Try 2 apples, 2 carrots, 1 cucumber, a small piece of ginger root (like the size of a quarter) and 2 big handfuls of kale and 2 stalks of celery. Makes 2 big glasses of juice, it's great.

That's the stuff right there. Mike, I am so glad you finally took the leap.

I have been working on the computer for about 7 years now - I had always been a chubby guy from a very young age and the first three years spent on the PC screwed me up royally.

I had become incredibly obese and surprisingly unhealthy.

I didn't get a chance to reboot or anything else, but had to get a Gym membership. It took a good three years for me to get back to a normal, healthy stage and it the first year was super rigorous and nothing to my liking.

I wish you luck in your endeavour.

P.S - If this could be turned into another thread with a bit of updates from your end, it would be fantastic.

Sounds awesome, make sure to keep us updated with your progress and your review of the juicer.

+1 on another dude sold on juicing primarily because of this thread. Gonna go out and get one today. Well a pimp blender anyway, not a juicer.

So based on this thread, and on some other shit I've read, besides the dirty hippy in the video who didn't use the Vitamix correctly, the Vitamix 5200 seems to generally be the way to go over the Blendtec. Would you guys agree?

Also, to the dude who did the Master Cleanse for 40 days, thats fucking nuts. I woulda gone insane. I did it for 10 days and was fiending for some food. I guess it gets easier as you go on. But I'm sure that vegetable soup was damn good when you finally had it.

Congrats Mike! Experimenting is pretty fun too. I threw some garlic and onions in there the other day just for fun, weirdest juice I've ever had. It's like sweet apples for the first second, then you're like.. oh... shit... onions kicking in.. OH GOD GARLIC NOW.... not bad!

Peppers are gangster too, try juicing a few of those.

I would not agree, but it really depends who you ask. It is almost like ATI vs nvidia or BMW vs Mercedes. Both brands have their fans and both work well.

I have used both, but prefer my Blendtec. I like the look, the automatic blending cycles, and the size. The Blendtec can always sit out on the counter under the kitchen cabinets while the Vitamix was too tall to leave out in the same location.
