They don't mention the "no answer" lists you get added, and who knows what potential ramifications that holds for those on the lists in the future.

if they're knocking on your door all the time then just fill the thing out. if you're really that against it, then DON'T OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR! problem solved.

When they come to the door next time, just start pretending to talk in a different language. It'll confuse the fuck out of them and they'll probably leave.

Print this out and hand it to them or tape it to your door.

To Whom it May Concern,

Pursuant to Article I, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitution, the only information you are empowered to request is the total number of occupants at this address. My “name, sex, age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, telephone number, relationship and housing tenure” have absolutely nothing to do with apportioning direct taxes or determining the number of representatives in the House of Representatives. Therefore, neither Congress nor the Census Bureau have the constitutional authority to make that information request a component of the enumeration outlined in Article I, Section 2, Clause 3. In addition, I cannot be subject to a fine for basing my conduct on the Constitution because that document trumps laws passed by Congress.

Interstate Commerce Commission v. Brimson, 154 U.S. 447, 479 (May 26, 1894)

“Neither branch of the legislative department [House of Representatives or Senate], still less any merely administrative body [such as the Census Bureau], established by congress, possesses, or can be invested with, a general power of making inquiry into the private affairs of the citizen. Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 190. We said in Boyd v. U.S., 116 U. S. 616, 630, 6 Sup. Ct. 524,―and it cannot be too often repeated,―that the principles that embody the essence of constitutional liberty and security forbid all invasions on the part of government and it’s employees of the sanctity of a man’s home and the privacies of his life. As said by Mr. Justice Field in Re Pacific Ry. Commission, 32 Fed. 241, 250, ‘of all the rights of the citizen, few are of greater importance or more essential to his peace and happiness than the right of personal security, and that involves, not merely protection of his person from assault, but exemption of his private affairs, books, and papers from inspection and scrutiny of others. Without the enjoyment of this right, all others would lose half their value.’”

honestly, i believe the census is an infringement of your right to privacy. it shouldn't be forced upon you. if people want to provide their personal information, fine. but no one should be fined for refusing to fill out some ridiculous government form.

My Mom is doing the census thing for the next 8 weeks, and tons of people are pure assholes, just answer the questions bros, it takes 5 minutes of your damn day. Or be a prick and deal with whatever consequences may arise. You sound like you might take the prick route.

People are not ignoring census workers because they don't have the 5 minutes to answer the questions. It is a matter of freedom and the United States Constitution.

jesus christ, get a life the government could really give a fuck less about some bum in a random apartment, get over yourself

I filled mine out like a good guy and STILL had a prick show up this weekend claiming they never received it. I found it hilarious the guy asked me "You don't have anybody hiding in your closets now, do you?"

What kind of stupid ass question is that. Oh, YES, I do, sir. I confess.

Census guy has been by 3 times now, i just dont answer the door lol. I'll answer him when he decides to come when im not so stoned and the pad aint full a smoke

The questions are fairly non-intrusive - the government already knows where you live if you pay taxes (or do just about anything). If it's a huge issue that you don't want them to know your race, just leave it blank. Doubt they'll come looking for you.

Also, you're just wasting your own tax dollars if you don't return the form - they've got to pay someone to come to your door if you don't send it back, and it costs a lot more than processing a form by mail.

If you're so concerned about privacy, fill out the info the government knows already, don't fill out the rest, and be done. And speaking of privacy, if you're so concerned, I assume you browse the internet without cookies & using adblock extensions? Doubt it.

Everyone had the same answer all the guys above had when the IRS started collecting their "donations". It's the patriotic thing to do, it helps our country, its not a big deal just do it... Fuck that look where it got us. Now we have a giant bully we can't get rid of constantly breathing down our necks stealing our lunch money. I refuse to let the census become the same thing.

It's the principle of the matter.

honestly, i believe the census is an infringement of your right to privacy.

Usually when there is some type of libertarian screed against the actions of our government it goes back to the Founding Fathers wouldn't be in support of something and/or the federal government eroding away rights over time, in other words things used to be better X number of years ago. But the first census was performed in 1790 on the direction of Thomas Jefferson.

Now if you guys would be fine in standing in front of Jefferson and telling him to "fuck off", then you have a leg to stand on but if you think the census is a recent example of overreaching by the federal government or that the Founding Fathers would be aghast at infractions of some vaguely determined "right to privacy" that would be incorrect.

I shredded mine in 2000 and I shredded mine this year. They can take their census and shove it up their ass. I pay enough in taxes that they should already know who I am. These census moochers shouldn't be collecting info. They should be cleaning my toilets!

Are you talking about my AM?

I'm with you blu. Fuck those guys. This year all the states are in such high competition for federal funds they've resorted to using IRS style tactics to get what they want. I don't know the exact legalities but they've told a friend of mine who was on his way to work when they showed up (refused to answer due to his rush) that they were going to send the cops to his work to arrest him for not answering the census questions.

Does anyone know if it really is a crime to not fill out the census or are they just shitting us to get compliance? I've even heard of them telling people they have a right to enter your house and search it if you don't answer the questions.

Just hope you have a good lawyer.

The contitution gave the US govt the power to 'enumerate the citizens' but the rest of this is just for government bullcrap.

I sent mine in like a good little workerbee, I don't want to be on any lists..........yet.

if your so worried about privacy, do the right thing and dont draw attention to yourself ( which you already did ) and just plain out fucking lie about the answers on the form.

That way, your hiding your private info and getting rid of them ( and staying under the radar ) at the same time.. such a simple solution. Its not like they have the brains to really check if you have more/less kids and shit.

I was a lazy fuck and didn't touch the forms so some smelly lady with a mustache interrupted my rum and coke for like 3 minutes.

The questions were stupid as hell and very noninvasive. I don't see why you guys are tarding out.

(btw I made her put down "Unicorn" as my race and she said there was nothing she could do about it)

The conspiracy shit that happens during each census is amusing.

By not sending in your census form, you cost the taxpayers money since they now have to pay census takers to come to your place. And if your area doesn't fill out their census forms, and the population is estimated to be lower than it is, then you lose getting your share in distributions from the government. Just fill out the fucking paper with the minimum information (the government knows more about you already...), and send the damn thing back. Stop wasting my tax dollars with your paranoia.

In the US, the census is nothing like it is in other countries - In Turkey, it's done in one day, where everyone is pretty much mandated to stay in their house, and not come out except when the census taker arrives...
