Do you or will you spank your children?

interesting topic - I was talking to the new little lady about this the other day.
I think a lot of spanking is done wrong and is harmful to children. Any time I'm in Walmart I'll see some mother beating the shit out of her kids because they touched some merchandise at the store. The child doesn't understand what he/she has done wrong and the mother is not in control of her own emotions. Its abuse and it makes me rage hard. One should never spank a child out of anger. Disclaimer: I am not a parent and I'm sure that's easier said than done.
Spanking can be effective but it needs to be done quickly after the behavior you are trying to correct and the child needs to understand why he/she is being spanked. Creating the association in a child's mind of "Playing with fire = I get a spanking" just teaches kids to get better at not getting caught. "Playing with fire = I could hurt myself other people and destroy my home, therefore I get a spanking" is a far more effective.

i have two girls, I would never dream of hitting them, mostly because I grew up in south africa and they hit everyone, never did anything for me I just rebelled more.
I give time outs and it seems to work, Im still in the early stages so when I count down to three I find the behavior stops at 2 but well see how long that lasts.
