Hmm... so what if someone sends mixed traffic?

Just use a mixed scoring

SERP position (at intervals) as well as Revenue

I was thinking that combining Will's (sorry, I can't spell your WF name bro) suggestion of daily rank scoring + the money making is the perfect match.

Take the ten biggest terms in the industry.

10 points for #1 each day
9 points for #2 each day
etc...
1 point for #10 each day

Then, take the cumulative points of the ranking and award the same points to the money winners.

Most cash = same point total as the top overall SERP points for 4 terms
Second most cash = same point total as top overall SERP points for 3 terms
Third most cash = same point total as top overall SERP points for 2 terms
Fourth most cash = same point total as top overall SERP points for 1 term

Combine the total scores and ship somebody the mystery box.

Be fairly easy with the high quality rank trackers we have + reporting from Eli, maybe Ilya or Bofu wants to get involved. This would also (maybe) eliminate someone PPCing the entire thing and saying "SEO sucks bros".

There's probably some major holes in this idea, pretty much shot from the hip on this one.

I guess we should make a decision as to whether or not this will be an SEO contest or a revenue contest. I love these ideas, because I think having competitions helps us collaborate privately, and helping us sharpen the axe..

I like Grindstone's suggestions.
- I don't think we can do anything other than the honor system that we won't use any other traffic sources besides SEO.
- Before the contest starts, we choose several "money keywords" that points will be based off of.
- Set up an account on RankCheckerAce.com to track all the participants and their rankings on a daily basis on Google
- Based on the scoring Grindstone laid out above (10 pts for #1 rank, etc.) points will be added up for the 10 (or whatever number) of keywords we choose as the "money keywords"
- We use the subID mentioned by Eli. We distribute points to the top 10 revenue-generators based on Eli's data.
- Winner of the contest is based on the most points, gets Eli's box of love + free HJ's for life
- Idea: prizes for the #1 revenue generator as well as #1 SEO points-getter?
- I'd like someone who is neutral and not participating to handle the points/keep track of websites. I'll be participating (and landing dead last in points since I will get penalized the fastest). Any volunteers?

To keep it simple I'm suggesting:
1. 1 domain for rankings which must also be used for revenue to count (again, honor system). It must be newly registered.
2. You ID your website by placing a logo on the page with your WF username
3. I'd like a start date next week, preferably 1 week from now so we can get our ducks in a row, choose keywords (maybe Eli can choose some?), and then we can start regging domains once we've determined the date.

Does this work? Anything that should be added?

I wouldn't mind being the neutral party that handles points/keeps track of websites. I already know you are all better than I am at the short term stuff which is why I pay people like skoh and Layered Links.

Just hit me up Dwight or Grind or whoever and we can get it all set up.

What if part of my SEO strategy is building legit links that will drive clickthrough traffic on their own?

What if part of my SEO strategy is good social promotion that will naturally drive social traffic?

What if the content I put on my site is quality and gets shared, linked to, and brings traffic outside of search engines?

Sites built to rank brand style are going to naturally receive mixed traffic. How will we determine the two, will these sites be penalized/kicked out for this even though it is just their SEO strategy?

Like the sound of this..

I disagree with you being dead last... I'm daddy at getting tanked ;)

We also need to figure out the length of the contest as well; I'm sure I am not the only one that would suggest longer is better. Secretly I need as many of you fuckers to get penalized as possible.

Since there are not as many prize-givers this time as in the last contest, why don't you charge $10, $20 or even $50 a head to enter the contest.

This has 2 advantages:

1) You'll have a solid sum of money that you can use as a prize (or split it into multiple prizes)

2) It'll force contestants to actually take it a little more seriously than the last one. Remember how there were many people that joined, bought a domain but didn't end up doing anything with it?

Good luck bro

SEO ranking and revenue generating is 2 totally different things.

While I am an advocate of at the end of the day who has the biggest bank roll, we need to realy decided if this is an SEO ranking contest or a revenue generating contest.

I can see so many holes in this directed at revenue, way too many holes.

Plus those good at SEO or blackhat might not be good copywriters and expands into another variable.

While I love out monetizing people day and night, I think you really need to pair this down to who can either rank or make money.

Basing score on revenue is just way to flawed when you add in scoring for SEO too.

Have you guys forgot the top affiliate challenge reality tv shit show? It came down to who was willing to blow the most of their own money with PPC.
